A model facelift is being applied across numerous motorcycles in BMW Motorrad’s 2018 catalogue, along with the introduction of BMW Motorrad Spezial, a customisation service for certain new models in the Munich firm’s range. Also being pushed forward in 2018 is BMW Motorrad Connectivity, which aims to provide fast and clear information for the rider with the least possible distraction from what is happening on the road.

For customers of the BMW Motorrad R nineT – which comprises of five models, base, Scrambler, Racer, Urban G/S and Pure – BMW is offering a customisation programme called Spezial, giving a choice of design, performance-enhancing and exclusive customisation options, ex-works. Buyers of the R nineT can specify various customisation options at the point of ordering, with pricing reflected in the invoice, and parts fully-covered by the factory warranty.

Customisation under the Spezial option, beginning in August 2017, can be done in two different ways – one at the point of order, where the parts and customisation is done at the BMW factory, the other via an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer, where options can be ordered in the future through a “Spezial World” catalogue.

As BMW Motorrad’s biggest selling model worldwide, the R 1200 GS, in base and GS Adventure flavours, undergoes an extensive facelift for 2018. While the base GS and GS Adventure get LED auxiliary headlights, Connectivity and Emergency Call as options, the GS Adventure gets a very extensive makeover on the specifications list.

Items changed for 2018 on the GS Adventure include Pro riding modes with additional “Dynamic” and “Enduro” riding modes, using an optional coding plug, which also includes Dynamic Traction Control, Hill Start Control, dynamic self-levelling, as well as Keyless Ride as part of the Touring option and Shift Assistant Pro in the Dynamic package.

On the paint scheme side of things, the GS, in 2018, comes with a new colour, Racing Red, which features a black frame, black brake calipers and silver fuel tank. Also available are “Style Rallye”, decking out the GS in Light White/Cordoba Blue, with blue frame, gold calipers, Cordoba Blue fuel tank, along with a Rallye-style seat, radiator and frame protection and short windshield.

Another GS option is the “Style Exclusive” in Black Storm Metallic/Dark Slate Metallic matte/Achat grey, with Achat grey frame, gold calipers and a Dark Slate Metallic fuel tank with large BMW logo. The previous year’s colours of Racing Red matte and Light White are no longer available.

For BMW Motorrad’s sports motorcycles, the BMW R 1200 RT gets ABS Pro including dyanamic brake light as standard, with Dynamic Traction Control included in the optional equipment Pro riding mode package. Colour options for the R 12000 RT next year are the “Style Elegance” in Carbon Black Metallic and “Style Sport” in Mars Red Metallic/Dark Slate Metallic, with the Spezial customisation being an option.

The naked sports R 1200 R gets Iced Chocolate Metallic for 2018, while the R 1200 RS comes in two paint options – Frozen Bronze Metallic/Black Storm Metallic and Black Storm Metallic. Superseded are the Thunder Grey Metallic and Lupin Blue Metallic for the R 1200 R and RS, respectively.

BMW Motorrad’s four-cylinder machines also get a small make-over for next year, namely the S 1000 XR and RR. The S 1000 XR now comes in BMW HP Motorsport colours of Light White/Racing Blue Metallic/Racing Red, and the package includes a Pro seat with XR logo stitched in, while the S 1000 RR superbike has a full-system titanium exhaust on the options list.

Elsewhere in the Motorrad range, its scooters, the C 650 Sport and C 650 GT, are now available in Austin Yellow Metallic and Ocean Blue Metallic, respectively. The K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL and K 1600 B six-cylinder tourers get optional LED auxiliary headlights while Spezial parts for K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL are available.

Rounding up the 2018 model make-over are the F 700 GS, F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure, which are finished in Racing Blue Metallic and Light White frame for 2018. The 2018 BMW Motorrad motorcycles will be available from all authorised Motorrad partners beginning August 2017.
