Petronas is now the first petroleum company in Malaysia to accept contactless mobile payments via Samsung Pay, at more than 1,000 of its stations across the country. The mobile payment method enables transactions to be conducted by merely flashing a compatible phone at the payment system, allowing customers to make payments without cash or cards.
“We are very excited to announce the introduction of Samsung Pay at our stations and we are confident that our customers will enjoy this new convenience and experience. Customers’ convenience is our utmost priority and the partnership with Samsung has definitely allowed us to widen our offerings for our customers,” said managing director and CEO of Petronas Dagangan Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus.
“This collaboration with Petronas will further encourage the growth of contactless payments in Malaysia among our customers. We will continue to strategically expand our partnership ecosystem for Samsung Pay to provide greater flexibility, access and choice for customers while enabling an easy and safe payment experience,” said Hosea Heen, head of IT & mobile business at Samsung Malaysia.
Devices currently compatible with this service include the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, S7 edge, S8 & S8+, Note 5, A5 (2016 & 2017), A7 (2016, 2017) and A9 Pro.
As part of the move to encourage users to adopt the new payment method, a joint campaign by Petronas and Samsung will take place between July 10 and September 3, 2017, where Samsung users can participate by submitting creative captions for photos which will be posted on PetronasBrand’s Instagram and share it with their friends during the campaign period.
Prizes are up for grabs every week for the duration of the campaign, where grand prize winners will receive one Samsung Galaxy S8 and a RM150 Petronas gift card. Second prize winners will receive a Samsung Galaxy A7 and a RM100 Petronas gift card, while the weekly third prize winners will get a Samsung battery pack each, and five consolation prize winners will get a RM50 Petronas gift card.
