Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia recalls Pajero, Pajero Sport and ASX – airbag inflator and other issues

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has issued separate recalls for Mitsubishi vehicles in the country as part of a field fix campaign.

The first is of utmost importance, and it involves the Pajero, where potentially faulty Takata airbag inflators will require replacement. This recall affects 128 units of the Pajero manufactured from 2010-2014, and will see the replacement of driver-side airbag inflators.

“Safety is our utmost priority thus MMM is taking this initiative to assure customer’s safety and regrets the inconvenience caused to the affected customers. This effort is to enable the replacement of the driver airbag inflator with improved inflators,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, CEO of MMM.

The company’s field fix campaign also involves replacing the tailgate gas spring on ASX models manufactured from 2010-2015 as well as on Pajero Sport units made between 2010 and 2016. According to MMM, this recall is necessary to replace the defective gas spring due to insufficient anti-corrosion coating.

The ASX is also part of a third recall that requires replacing the compact SUV’s wiper motor, whereby possible water intrusion may result in corrosion to the internal parts and cause it to stop operating.

All customers affected by the field fix campaign will be issued notification letters, and the full cost of the replacement will be borne by the company. Affected customers are advised to make an appointment at any MMM authorised service centres for any replacement activity.
