McLaren confirms two new Ultimate Series models

McLaren has confirmed it will be launching two new models parked under its Ultimate Series banner, where you’ll also find the P1. The first, rumoured to be codenamed the P15, is said to be the “most extreme, track-concentrated road car McLaren has yet designed.”

Our first glimpse of the P15 will only come in the first quarter of 2018, and it will be delivered ahead of a second future Ultimate Series model (codenamed BP23), a “Hyper-GT.” Similar to the P1, the upcoming Ultimate Series models will be produced in very limited numbers, and if you want one, tough luck – all examples have already been accounted for.

McLaren says the P15 will be a road legal track car that sacrifices daily usability to give the “most intensive driver experience around a circuit.” The company adds the car will be the purest expression its ‘form follows function’ philosophy, and will feature a design described as brutal.

The accompanying teaser gives us a look at one part of the car, its triple-pipe exhaust setup, which is only one away from matching the Pagani Huayra. Autocar UK reports the P15 will not receive a hybrid powertrain (like the P1), and will instead use an enhanced version of the M840T in the Super Series-branded 720S.

The car is said to be built around McLaren’s Monocage II carbon-fibre tub, with a weight of less than 1,300 kg to ensure a power-to-weight ratio that eclipses that of the P1. Only 500 units are expected to be produced by McLaren, and the car’s name will be revealed before the end of this year.
