UMW Toyota recalls Alphard, Vellfire over EPB’s ECU

Toyota Alphard 3.5 (left), Vellfire 2.5 (right)

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) today announced a recall to update the electronic control unit (ECU) of the electric parking brake (EPB) system of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Around 1,900 units of the MPV manufactured from April 2016 to Feb 2018, distributed by UMWT, are involved in the campaign.

The issue is with improper programming of the ECU for the EPB system. There is the possibility that a voltage reduction during an engine restart after an idling stop could be judged as an abnormality if the battery has experienced degradation. If this happens, a warning light would illuminate and the EPB system may not operate.

UMWT will notify all affected vehicle owners officially to update the ECU programming at no charge. The fix should take around an hour. Owners of affected cars can contact an authorised Toyota service centre or use this VIN checker to confirm the status of your vehicle.

    • Yup. I agree the parking brake is separate from the electronic system. Just in case all system down, at least u have your parking brake that operate manually.

Proton doesn’t have Electronic Parking Brake yet. All current vehicles still using 1950s manual handbrake. Belum masuk 21st Century lagi.
