Johor MB wants JB-SG Rapid Transit System by 2019

Johor chief minister Datuk Osman Sapian has revealed that he wants the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) to start as soon as possible to ease congestion on the Causeway. According to The Star, the minister said traffic congestion at the Causeway has reached a critical a point, and something must be done to address the matter.

“We hope to see the project take place by the middle of 2019,” Osman told the press after attending the Corruption-Free Pledge in Johor. He added that the Economic Planning Unit is finalising details on the RTS project, and that a company has been identified to undertake it. “Improvement in connectivity and accessibility between Johor Bahru and Singapore will boost economic activities on both sides of the Straits of Johor,” said Osman.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said it has yet to receive any official word from Malaysia on the formation of a joint venture company to be the operator of the four-kilometre MRT system, which stretches across the Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North stations. It will be able to ferry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, and is scheduled for completion by 2024, replacing today’s KTM Link.

Anthony Loke, Malaysia’s transport minister, previously said a joint venture company would be set up upon receiving the Cabinet’s approval following the submission of a detailed working paper with detailed information. In July, it was reported that Singapore’s rail operator, SMRT Corporation Ltd and Malaysia’s national rail operator, Prasarana Malaysia, had missed the June 30 deadline to form a joint venture company.

We must do due diligience first. Don’t let it become like LRT3, from RM9 billion can lompat to RM32 billion.

      All masuk poket

    • there is no need for a multibillion-dollar HSR nonetheless the RTS is what is cost-effective but yet will see ridership exceed capacity within the first two years of operation.

In case YB don’t know because he is still new at his job.
It is not in Singapore’s best interest to make travel to and from Johor as smooth as possible.

Well… all was on the right track between Johor n S’pore govt before GE.

MBOsmanSpaian comrades in the fed govt made it stall now behind schedule by 2 months… n not even set a date yet for JV company formation… always ‘harap cepat’ but slow to action.

  • I don’t understand why the need to have this RTS. He should have gone down to BSI and solve the all lanes counter which aren’t opening and speed up the efficiency of the officers. Remove all the barriers that are causing congestions.
