In conjunction with the BMW Nightfuel 2018 in Johor Bahru, BMW Motorrad Malaysia previewed the 2018 BMW Motorrad F 850 GS adventure bike. The F 850 GS, direct replacement for the F 800 GS, is scheduled to be officially launched in this Novemeber, but pricing is yet to be determined.
On the first approach, the new F 850 GS comes with rather more dynamic and ‘macho’ styling whilst still retaining the iconic GS design traits such as the beak front fender. However, changes are not just limit to design as the rear end and seat has been slimmed down and softened for rider comfort along with a non-adjustable windshield which can be swapped out for different heights.
With an increase in capacity comes a slight boost in power, in this case 95 hp at 8,250 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm from the 853 cc parallel-twin engine, up from the 85 hp and 83 Nm of torque of the F 800 GS. Power gets to the ground via a six-speed gearbox that now comes with an anti-hopping (slipper) clutch that has reduced lever effort.
In standard form, the F 800 GS comes with two ride modes, Road and Rain. Increasing the performance capability of the F 800 GS requires installation of the optional Pro package that adds three more modes – Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro which, combined with the standard ABS and Automatic Stability Control (ASC), biases the F 850 GS towards off-road riding.
As befits a motorcycle with both on- and off-road performance in its bag of tricks, the F 850 GS comes with long-legged suspension, upside-down 43 mm diameter telescopic forks in front with 204 mm of travel and fully-adjustable monoshock in the rear with 219 mm of travel. The F 850 GS rolls on spoked wheels – 21 inches in front and a 17-inch hoop at the back.
The instrument panel has also been upgraded, now coming in the form of a 6.5-inch TFT-LCD screen. Adding the optional BMW Connectivity module allows for the F 850 GS to communicate with the rider’s smart phone, enabling functions such as answering calls, listening to music and others.
There are three colour options for the 2018 BMW Motorrad F 850 GS – Pollux, Light White and Racing Red/Lupin Blue. Aside from that, there are several upgrade packages available for the F 850 GS which are Comfort, Touring, Dynamic and Lights, which allow the owner to customise his or her F 850 GS to suit the intended purpose.

Dear Mohan, is it possible for you to get the sales numbers for motorcycles in malaysia like how PT did with cars? And hoping you can segregate between small bikes below 200cc, big bike CKD and big bike CBU.
