The unveiling of the Audi e-tron GT concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show is still hot off the press, but already Ingolstadt has confirmed a new starring role for the stylish four-door electric “coupé”. The car will make its silver screen debut in the upcoming Avengers 4, set to be released in the summer.
It’s not entirely surprising, given that Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr was given a sneak peek of the concept in advance, and that the four-ringed brand has had a long history with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stretching all the way back to the appearance of the original R8 in the first Iron Man film. More recently, moviegoers were treated to a preview of the new A8 in Spider-Man: Homecoming, ahead of its unveiling.
As a recap, the e-tron GT concept, which presages a production version coming in 2020, is essentially Audi’s version of the upcoming Porsche Taycan. It is powered by front and rear electric motors that provide all-wheel drive and torque vectoring, as well as a total system output of 434 kW (582 hp), propelling the car to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The 90 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of around 400 km.
