Toyota Europe is offering customers a sportier variant of the new Corolla called the GR Sport, which is set to go on sale from January 2020. The Corolla GR Sport follows in the footsteps of the Yaris GR Sport introduced last year, and comes with a range of unique styling cues inside and out.

On the exterior, there’s a new front grille that gets a dark chrome finish, as well as unique lower skirts, side rockers and rear diffuser. Also included in the GR Sport trim level are 18-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, fog lamps, LED headlamps and a two-tone finish featuring a dedicated colour, Dynamic Grey.

Inside, you’ll find sport seats in black fabric with leather-like side bolsters, which can be swapped out for full leather upholstery. There’s also black and red stitching found on the instrument panel, steering wheel and gear shifter.

Interested parties can order the Corolla GR Sport in either Hatchback or Touring Sports body styles, with a choice of a 1.8 or 2.0 litre hybrid powertrain. There are no mechanical updates here, so the 1.8L choice offers 122 PS and 142 Nm of torque, while the 2.0L provides 180 PS and 190 Nm.

For those who are turned off by the GR Sport’s sporty character, there’s also a new Corolla TREK being offered. Created out of collaboration with Trek Bicycle, the new variant is meant to appeal to “people who enjoy active lifestyles and outdoor pursuits.”

This variant is only offered for the Touring Sports, and resembles other jacked-up, crossover-type station wagons like the Volvo V90 Cross Country. Features include a 20 mm increase in ride height for greater ground clearance, front and rear underrun, 17-inch alloys, rear privacy glass, fog lamps and LED headlamps. Sales of the Corolla TREK will begin from August 2019.
