With the announcement Malaysian MotoGP racer Hafizh Syahrin, nicknamed “El Pescao”, would not have his ride contract with Red Bull KTM Tech3 Racing renewed for 2020, speculation has been rife amongst his huge local fanbase as to what his fate might be. Some have said a return to Moto2 would be on the cards while others have suggested a shift to another race series is more likely.
However, Hafizh is currently the best Malaysia has at the top flight of two-wheeled motorsport and while he has his detractors who imply he got there more because of politics than ability, Malaysia does have the option of having Petronas SIC Racing competing in all three MotoGP classes.
Hafizh’s future in motorcycle racing is currently in the limbo and an unnamed source close to the issue has told paultan.org that a meeting will be held between Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Syed Saddiq, Petronas SIC Racing team principal Datuk Razlan Razali and team sponsor Petronas.
Despite having a bad year in MotoGP, Hafizh Syahrin is felt to have not been given enough development time with the KTM RC16, a fact borne out by the fortunes of Tech 3 team mate Johann Zarco this season. The question that should be asked is, if not Petronas, then who, but Petronas is currently having a good season in the middle standings and could see no reason to jeopardise its team development purely on the grounds of nationalism.

Hope he gets another seat and continue with MotoGP, best if he gets a ride on a Yamaha. However only if he merits the job and not due to rescued by Petronas team. We are way past this ‘national service duty’.
We have to look into this at holistic level. In the context of Malaysian riders, no other riders have the MotoGP exposure & experience as Hafizh does. He is still relatively young. Next year , don’t think there’s any empty seat in MotoGP. BUT, in 2021 maybe he should be given a chance. It’s not wrong if Petronas came to the rescue. Hafizh’s performance as a rookie on the Yamaha is quite commendable. And a chance to have another Malaysian rider with right experience in MotoGP is very very hard to come by….
In my calculations is.’ .Honda bike of crushlow : – is the best for Syahrin + to Flat-outt. [Just personal opinion]•. #impossible
Politician…please stay out of this please.
It adds unnecessary pressure during competition if his sear
A true racer/rider will have a very strong spirit and will give his definite best in any given competition.
IMHO, if nobody wants him after he had tried then with his exp he should be guiding young talents. This is the time minister should do their job.
He is not as successful as Karamjit at international stage but he had gain exposure at the highest level like what our flying singh had. Its a waste if this exposure is not shared.
Motogp is not ‘international stage’? Can you explain that?
U not understand panjang’s the statement
Tuan, maksud ‘panjang’ adalah; Di arena antarabangsa, Hafiz tidak sehebat Karamjit. Saya tolong terjemah sahaja.
“while he has his detractors who imply he got there more because of politics than ability”
Yeah we know the left trope- ‘brown man bad, yellow man great’
Morbidelli the current Petronas rider on a Factory Spec Yamaha M1 with zero podium, is performing far worst than the rookie Quartararo on a non-factory spec Yamaha M1.
If Hafizh on his second year in MotoGp riding a Yamaha M1 and always finish the last , than we can conclude he is not performing, but even Zarco couldnt ride that KTM. Given the seat of Morbidelli, Hafizh may perform better than Morbidelli.
Merapu apa ni, Fabio Quartararo, last minute, tetiba Yamaha kata bagi dia motosikal sama spec dengan Valentino Rossi pakai sekarang, Yamaha ada hubungan kuat dengan Petronas sebelum ni.
Sic rider moving to honda next season. Theres chances that hafis will ride for sic next year.
