BMW M2 Competition race car teased ahead of debut

BMW has teased a new entry-level race car dedicated to grassroots motorsport and club racing, which is based on the road-going M2 Competiion. The upcoming model replaces the M240i Racing, and is aimed at potential amateur racing drivers, with Racing and Clubsport variants to be offered. The first cars are slated to be delivered to customers in the second quarter of 2020.

There aren’t a whole lot of details like specifications for now, but the German carmaker says it is developing the car to provide “simple handling for everyone – whilst at the same time ensuring the highest possible technical quality and maximum safety.”

A stripped out and race-prepped interior is the only thing that is blatantly obvious in the short video posted, with BMW saying the race car can be used to compete in “many different fields of motorsport.”

The racing BMW M2 Competition will make its race debut at the Nürburgring in the VLN Endurance Championship, where BMW Motorsport will run a camouflaged example in the six-hour race in order to subject the car to intense testing under extreme conditions typically faced during a race.

At the wheel will be BMW Motorsport Junior Beitske Visser as well as Jörg Weidinger, the test and development engineer at BMW M GmbH, who himself is a very successful BMW Sports Trophy competitor for many years.
