Honda CT125 Concept based on Grom at Tokyo show

Shown ahead of its public unveiling at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show this October is the Honda CT125 Concept. This scrambler style design takes its underpinnings from the Honda Grom/MSX125. the CT125 Concept thus joins the Super Cub C125 and Monkey, both priced at RM13,999 in Malaysia, in Honda’s retro kapchai range.

Based on the Honda Trail 110 from the 1980s, the CT125 comes with an air-cooled, two-valve, single-cylinder mill. Taking the power output for the Super Cub 125 as a guide, the CT125 should produce some 9.1 hp at 7,500 rpm and 9.98 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm.

In the scrambler style, the exhaust routes up high and under the rider’s thigh with a perforated chrome exhaust guard hopefully preventing the rider’s eggs from being cooked. Chrome crash bars are included and the footpeg arrangement looks to be a robust cast unit implying the CT125 is designed for just more than posing outside hipster coffee shops.

Versus the Super Cub, the CT125 concept has spoked wheels with the compulsory chunky rubber and rubber fork gaiters complete the retro look. On the left side, the air box has a snorkel that extends to just behind the solo seat.

Braking is done with single hydraulic discs front and rear and twin shock absorbers prop up the back end. Going from Honda’s track record, the CT125 Concept is likely to make it into production, based on what has happened previously with the Honda Monkey, Super Cub and CBR250RR, reports Asphalt and Rubber.

This bike is a classic bike, it was used by postmen in New Zealand decades ago. That’s why it’s a single seater (to leave space for the postbags).
