At the upcoming 2019 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Hyundai will be fielding an off-road Kona concept alongside the VelosterRaptor, and it has teamed up with Rockstar Performance Garage to create what it calls the Ultimate Kona Concept.
For this project, a black Kona Ultimate Turbo AWD model was used as the base car, and modified it with King suspension units, 16-inch Motegi rally wheels wrapped with 30-inch Mickey Thompson race-grooved tyres, as well as performance rotors and pads by R1 Concepts.
The 1.6 litre turbocharged Gamma engine now breathes better thanks to K&N filters billet intake and Magnaflow exhaust, and it also gets Race Chip performance tuning, although no output figures have been revealed as yet. In stock guise, the engine cranks out 175 hp at 5,500 rpm and 264 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. It’s paired to a seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
Other enhancements include Baja Design LED lighting mounted in front of the radiator grille, Bulletliner exterior coating for maximum protection when going off-road, Roadwire alligator-skinned seats, Kicker audio system, as well as additional smartphone mounts by Scosche.
