Prasarana daily ridership 1.4 million and growing: CEO

Kumpulan Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has so far handled the daily passage of 1.4 million riders through its transport services in the country this year, Bernama reported.

In addition to changing the face of public transportation in the country, Prasarana has spearheaded a new lifestyle for city folk by promoting transit-oriented development, said Prasarana group CEO Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain.

“The interest and inclination of the public in using public transport is increasing. In the case of Rapid KL alone, the number of passengers (served) a day exceeds one million,” he said. Compared to the 1.4 million riders served daily this year, 900,000 riders were served daily in 2018.

The Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) line is the most populated, and saw 329,406 riders a day, followed by the Ampang/Sri Petaling line with 213,158 riders a day, while the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Mass Rail Transit (MRT) served 215,833 riders a day, said Hazlan.

Meanwhile, the monorail line saw a ridership of 40,094, the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit line with 16,444 riders, the RapidKL bus with 317,803 riders and the MRT shuttle bus with 56,952 riders daily, he added.
