GALLERY: 2019 Mitsubishi Triton Athlete in Thailand

In late November, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand launched the new Triton Athlete, and the pick-up truck has since gone on display at the ongoing Thailand Motor Expo. Available only as a double cab, the Triton Athlete features a range of accessories that are sold and installed by the dealer, which is priced at 32,000 baht (RM4,425).

Buyers in Thailand can choose between two variants, starting with the Triton Double Cab Plus Athlete AT that is priced at 1,035,000 baht (RM143,186). The second option is the Triton Double Cab 4WD Athlete AT, which goes for 1,146,000 baht (RM158,438). These prices are inclusive of the Athlete accessories package that was mentioned earlier.

Aside from the presence or absence of four-wheel drive (Super Select 4WD II with rear differential lock), both utilise a 4N15 2.4 litre turbodiesel MIVEC engine with 181 PS at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 2,500 Nm. A six-speed automatic gearbox is the only available transmission pairing with the engine for the Athlete variants.

Styling cues that are unique to the Athlete include a front grille and skid plate that are finished in gloss black, with the side steps, rear bumper, door handles and mirror caps also following suit. There’s also an embossed Mitsubishi script on the grille, located just below the brand’s logo.

For an extra 10,000 baht (RM1,382), you can even get the roof painted black to contrast two of three exterior colours on offer – Sunflare Orange and Jet Black Mica, or have the truck painted in White Diamond, which comes with the black roof by default.

Other exterior items that are part of the Athlete get-up are a gloss black styling bar, decorative decals and a bed liner, while the interior gets model-specific embroidery on the front seats, floor mats along with a generous amount of orange accents.

The rest of kit list is similar to higher-spec, double cab variants of the Triton, and includes bi-LED projector headlamps (with auto high beam function), 18-inch wheels, automatic air-conditioning (with rear vents), a touchscreen head unit, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry and start, cruise control, Forward Collision Mitigation System, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and seven airbags.

Too long mouthful. Why not call it Triathlete instead?

Considering the base model name for this is “Triton”, are you saying that it should be called as Triton Triathlete? (in this order > model + variant) lol
