Zeekr 7X features smart safety seat with active airbags

Alongside its suite of active safety and driver assistance systems, the Zeekr 7X features what the brand calls the world’s first smart safety seat for children, which is equipped with active airbags.

Here in the image posted by Zeekr on X/Twitter, the smart safety seat for children is shown in a forward-facing position, and is shown to feature an airbag module located between the shoulder harnesses in front of the child occupant.

This airbag deploys upwards, likely to limit the child occupant’s head from excessive forward movement in the event of a frontal collision. Head protection for child occupants is crucial as the head comprises a larger proportion of the body at a younger age, compounded by neck muscles which have yet to fully develop.

In addition to the smart safety seat for child occupants, the Zeekr 7X also includes a hidden, built-in window breaker feature located behind the door card for the driver’s door, in the event of flooding and the vehicle’s occupants are trapped inside, according to Autohome. Zeekr is also applying for the patent its one-button window breaker technology to be released to all industries, according to the Chinese site.

Having made its official debut at the end of August, the Zeekr 7X saw its sales launch last week in China, where it went on sale in three variants, starting from 229,900 yuan (RM137,490) for the RWD 75 kWh, through 249,900 yuan (RM149,451) for the RWD 100 kWh, up to 269,900 yuan (RM161,416) for the AWD 100 kWh, according to Car News China.

The rear-wheel-drive powertrain configuration for the 7X outputs 421 PS from its single-motor layout, while the dual-motor layout for the all-wheel-drive variant gains a second, 224 PS front axle motor for a combined output of 646 PS, to enable a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.

Given its external dimensions of 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,666 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm, the five-seater Zeekr 7X is slightly larger than its direct rival, the Tesla Model Y, while other notable competitors in its class include the Xpeng G6, Li Auto L6 and the Xiaomi MX11.

Active safety in the Zeekr 7X is powered by dual Nvidia Orin X chips which enable functions such as autonomous emergency braking and a level of self-driving. This is expected to offer the same suite of systems as the Zeekr 007, which has a combination of lidar and camera-based systems as well as more than 30 sensors.
