Proton eMas 7 confirmed to share Geely Galaxy E5 powertrain – 218 PS/320 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds

The Proton eMas 7 Tour is underway, which will see the upcoming eMas 7 EV (stylised as e.MAS 7) ultimately traverse all states in Malaysia, covering some 2,000 km. With Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor done, Proton has announced on Facebook that the tour will head north to Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis beginning Friday.

Crucially, the post mentions that the eMas 7 can do 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, which is the same as the Geely Galaxy E5. Also, power and torque have been mentioned: 160 kW (218 PS) and 320 Nm. This pretty much confirms that the Proton and Geely will share the same powertrain. The Geely offers two battery options – 49.52 kWh with a CLTC range of 440 km and 60.22 kWh with up to 530 km on a single charge.

By the way, 6.9 seconds will actually make the eMas 7 the fastest-accelerating Proton to date, way ahead of the Satria GTi‘s claimed 7.8 seconds (quite different in reality) and the X50 Flagship‘s claimed 7.9 seconds.

The Proton eMas 7, which is the right-hand-drive version of the Geely Galaxy E5, isn’t just a complete rebadge job. Proton says that it has carried out plenty of local testing and had even requested and implemented 49 additional testing processes – some of which are unique to Proton – to ensure the eMas 7 meets both local and global standards. These include tests for load performance and stability control.

The eMas 7 also has a 400 mm maximum water wading depth to provide additional protection against floods – this is higher than the Geely. The depth test was simulated at Proton’s proving ground in July, where the company also conducted a speed bump test to simulate actual Malaysian road conditions.

Tanjong Malim also claims a revised suspension tuning for the Malaysian market. The setup is stiffer than Chinese specifications, delivering better ride comfort and body control.

The Proton eMas 7 is set to be on display at the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024 show, which will take place over the weekend of October 26-27 at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC). There, the interior will be open and shown to the public for the very first time. Entry is free, so do come by.

No reason for a mass market car to go any faster than that. 6.9 is plenty.

Dumping means selling below cost and below what they are selling for in their domestic market. Both are not true.

Geely made USD$750,000,000 in profits last year. Be better.

The width is 1901mm. Some of our Malaysian parking lots are so narrow, can fit?
Anyone who owns Proton X90 or those with a car equivalent to this width please share your experience here?
