MIROS child seat survey – evaluates readiness for new law, Touch ‘n Go eWallet credit for 1st 300 participants

The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has released a new survey to assess the use of child car seats among Malaysian motorists. The agency says it intends to evaluate the public’s readiness for the enforcement of the child seat law, with the responses also helping it understand the factors influencing child seat usage as well as how to improve child safety in vehicles.

Among the questions asked in the survey are whether the participant owns a child seat, how often they use it and what measures the government would have to take to make them use it more often. To sweeten the deal, the first 300 participants will receive an RM8 Touch ‘n Go eWallet voucher.

MIROS has long advocated the use of child seats to keep children safe in cars – most recently working with the ministry of transport on the MyCRS subsidy programme in 2022. Child seat use in Malaysia remains shockingly low, no doubt due to the lack of enforcement: while the use of these lifesaving products has been made mandatory since 2020, the enforcement of the said law has been postponed indefinitely and is still being studied by the ministry.
