Here’s another accident involving a lorry and multiple vehicles. Yesterday afternoon, a five-tonne lorry rammed into 11 cars and a motorcycle at the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). Three people escaped with minor injuries and thankfully, no life was loss in the accident.

Bernama reported that all the victims were locals, aged 43 to 65, and were handed to health ministry officers for treatment.

According to Selangor Bomba assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, they received a distress call from the incident at 3.09 pm yesterday afternoon. Seven firefighters from the Selayang station were mobilised to the accident site with two fire engines, and the rescue operation and clean up was completed at 4.43 pm.

From these two pictures, it looks like a typical highway pile-up, which happens when vehicles are driving too close to those in front, and one sudden brake or lapse of concentration can lead to a chain of crashes. The background looks like the MRR2 stretch near Batu Caves.

Remember not to tailgate and always leave a good distance between your car and the vehicle in front. If someone is doing it to you, just let him or her pass. Also, don’t be distracted by your phone or child, as it takes away precious reaction time when braking/evasion is needed.

This incident follows two fatal accidents involving container lorries last week. The first one was in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, where a container dislodged from its trailer and crushed a car waiting at the traffic lights. The second one was on the PLUS from Simpang Renggam to Machap in Johor. Apparently, the container lorry had a tyre blowout and lost control – one died and several others were injured.
