Volkswagen ID.7 EV does 941 km on a single battery charge, averaging 29 km/h, consuming 9.2 kWh/100 km

Volkswagen has revealed that it has taken the ID.7 electric vehicle to a distance of 941 km on a single charge of its battery, exceeding this models official WLTP range figure of 709 km by nearly one-third.

The variant tasked with the feat was an ID.7 Pro S, equipped with an 86 kWh battery pack that powers a single 286 PS/545 Nm motor driving the rear wheels, with a consumption figure of between 16.2 to 13.6 kWh per 100 km. This can take DC charging at up to 200 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in 26 minutes.

In achieving the distance of 941 km on a single charge of its battery, the ID.7 Pro S consumed electricity at 9.2 kWh per 100 km, lower than its WLTP figure. This test was conducted in December 2024 at the Nardo Technical Centre in southern Italy, on the 12.5 km-long Low Speed Ring circuit, when ambient temperatures were between five degrees to 15 degrees Celsius.

During the test, the car reached an average speed of 29 km/h, which Volkswagen says corresponds with typical rush hour speeds within large cities. Citing Traffic Index information from TomTom, average European city speeds range from 22 km/h, in Hamburg, Germany, to 31 km/h, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The efficiency achieved by the ID.7 Pro S was attributed to its APP550 drive motor, and the car’s drag coefficient of 0.23. Autocar however notes that the speeds achieved were markedly lower than the speed averaged in WLTP testing, which is 46.5 km/h, and so the vehicle’s motor has less friction and aerodynamic drag to overcome.

The ID.7 EV is also available in the Tourer bodystyle, and the station wagon variant attains 685 km of range on the WLTP standard. For those after high-performance derivatives of the ID.7, there is the ID.7 GTX with a 340 PS dual-motor, AWD setup enabling 0-100 km/h 5.4 seconds, as well as the GTX Tourer for a long-roof version of the twin-motor performance variant.

  • Can see a lot of test online vag group ev have a good “town” speed efficiency..all this is quite possible but once it cross 90km/hr and above they lose badly to tesla in efficiency and range..

This is hyper-mileing. To actually simulate city driving, the car has to stop, accelerate, brake, accelerate etc (simulating traffic lights, car in-front brakes for whatever reason etc). Driving constantly at 29km/h doesn’t cut it.

Now save, later depreciation and battery replacement is payback time…
