The transport ministry has revealed that the government collected RM45.9 million from the sale of special vehicle registration plate series in 2024, which includes the ‘GOLD’, ‘FFF’, ‘EV’, ‘PETRA’ and ‘MADANI’ series.
The ministry was responding Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin, who asked about the total revenue generated from special number plate sales last year and for a breakdown of related expenditure, reports Malay Mail.
“All proceeds from these sales were channelled into the Consolidated Fund under the finance ministry, and subsequently, 50% was allocated to the transport ministry for initiatives benefiting underprivileged groups,” the reply read.
These initiatives include the MyLesen programme, which was introduced at a national level in May 2023 to aid persons from the B40 income group and youths in obtaining motorcycle licences (Class B2, below 250 cc engine capacity), public service vehicle (PSV) licences for e-hailing and buses, as well as goods driving licences (GDL) for lorries.
Funds were also allocated to providing free helmets for both adults and children, as well as the FLYsiswa initiative that provides flight ticket subsidies for students at public universities, polytechnics, matriculation colleges and teacher training institutes travelling between Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Additionally, the ministry used a portion of the funds for Socso contributions under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme for taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers. Revenue from the sale of the ‘GOLD’ series was used to sponsor the remaining 10% of the insurance contribution, ensuring they are adequately protected under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017.

Only way to help B40 is to have a good and proper education and skill training centres or certification of apprenticeship schemes. Instead these poor souls in rural areas are fed with more madrasahs legal and illegal. It’s a perpetual poverty trap.
Hence gomen creating more religious entities and positions just to create employment for these people.
What does madrasah have anything to do with this? Since when madrasah inhale our taxes? Speak with brain not with your feelings
Bro…that training center n cert thing is true 10 to 15 years ago. Tday, people with cert are plenty….and jobless. Let alone people with degree and masters.
Yeah right. The B40s have said they never receive any funding from this. The only B40 he helped is his own pockets!
That’s great! Will the gomen delay targeted subsidies then? Or are we still feeding the cronies?
Cronies man just like the Jana claim to save Malaysia and even after that the Keluarga man also all the same cronies corruption first to satisfy friends, family cronies business.
Boleh percaya ka sama Loke@Madani? Bg bukti tgk.
B40, B40, B40
Yang dikejar tak dapat, yang dikendong berciciran.
All the efforts… of selling no plates, digitisaton, and so on are good efforts.
But, they are what I consider adminstrative and somewhat localised, and fairly simplistic.
I would want to hear more from the transport ministry in its effort to tackle congestion, transport system, making our transport hub more appealing to international markets.
Selling special plate number actually raise fund for aiding B40 and save life. A win-win as rich people can get fancy number and helping the needy. So please launch more.
Number plate minister!
