As to be expected, the Proton eMas 7 has again topped the best-selling EV model chart in Malaysia for the month of February 2025. The local-branded EV had 580 registrations in the short month, making a nice total of 1,001 units delivered since launch. In other words, precisely “over 1,000 units.”

Other EVs weren’t that far behind, however, with the BYD Sealion 7 having had a very strong showing of 387 units. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 had a big rebound after a slow start to the year; its 377 units leaving it in a solid third place for both the month of February and the year to date.

Two more BYD models, the M6 (120 units in Feb) and Seal (70) rounded off the top five, though the Xpeng G6 actually pipped the latter for the month with 74 units registered. BYD’s perennial best-seller, the Atto 3, had a bit of a dip, dropping from 104 units in Jan to just 42 in Feb, but that’s a healthy figure relative to the still-tiny EV market in Malaysia.

Other notable mentions include significant drops for the BMW i5 (from 103 to 12), i7 (38 to just 2) and Zeekr 009 (81 to 3), while the Tesla Model Y saw a big jump from 10 to 65. The last figure is well under the Model Y’s average of around 200 units per month last year, but expect it to swell once the facelifted model arrives from April onwards.

Chinese EV-makers Ora (23), smart (30) and Leapmotor (13) all had a lackluster month, with only smart averaging more than one car a day, and that’s with both the #1 and #3 models combined.
