The updated Peugeot 2008 has been sighted in Malaysia, courtesy of images posted to the Peugeot Citroen Club Malaysia Facebook page, depicting the trade plate-wearing vehicle parked at what appears to be a highway rest stop.
This would appear to be the combustion-engined version of the French brand’s B-segment crossover, seen here in facelift guise with the front fascia seen on the e-2008 battery-electric model that was sighted in Malaysia last year.
Here, the lower corners of the bumper can be expected to feature the triple-claw DRL arrangement as on the e-2008, and its grille wears the stylised pins in a vertical orientation as compared to the earlier version that used a horizontal pattern.
The rear end of the vehicle gives away its powertrain type, with a pair of exhaust outlets along the lower edge of the rear bumper which are absent from the e-2008. Overseas, a choice of three engine options are offered, comprised of two 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engines and a 1.5 litre four-cylinder diesel; it will be the petrol unit that is most likely to be offered in Malaysia.
That would be the higher-output version that is the PureTech 130, offering 136 PS and mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic; the latter a near-certainty for our market. This is similar to the model currently offered in Malaysia, with a 130 PS/230 Nm 1.2 litre PureTech turbocharged petrol unit that is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Referencing specifications of the e-2008 that could be shared with the ICE-powered version of the updated 2008, interior kit on the BEV includes a revised ten-inch digital instrument cluster, a standard-fit 10-inch infotainment touchscreen (previously seven inches), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, new colours for the eight-colour ambient lighting, and three USB-C ports; two in front, and one at the rear.
It remains to be seen when exactly the updated Peugeot 2008 will be introduced to the Malaysian market, though with the e-2008 yet to be launched, there could be some chance that the BEV and ICE versions are introduced at the same time, given that the ICE model is already produced in Gurun, the BEV will follow suit, and possibly use locally-made batteries, too.
