Tragedy struck again in the wee hours of the morning when a tour bus carrying 46 passengers collided with a tanker and a tow truck in Batu Pahat, leaving two Indonesians dead and 16 injured. According to Sinar Harian, the incident occurred on kilometre 80.7 of the North-South Highway.

In a statement, Ayer Hitam fire department operations commander, senior fire officer II Md Isa Masngun, said that his team and the Yong Peng fire department rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 12:44 am, adding that once they arrived at the location, it was found that two passengers were found trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.

Md Isa also said the drivers of both the tanker and tow truck were both safe. The fire department had to use special equipment to free the trapped victims before the rest of the passengers could be evacuated, with the injured either being sent to the hospital via a ministry of health ambulance or attended to by an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) team. The operation was completed at 3:03 am.

This is at least the second fatal bus accident in two months, following another tour bus crash in Gerik, Perak that resulted in the deaths of 15 students. In response, the transport ministry instituted a mandate for bus drivers and passengers to wear seat belts, which went into effect on July 1.
