2025 BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport in Malaysia – 3.0T mild-hybrid, from RM470k; RM25k cheaper than PHEV

BMW Malaysia has launched the facelifted fourth-generation (G05) BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport mild-hybrid, and this joins the X5 xDrive50e M Sport plug-in hybrid that was first shown for the Malaysian market in January 2024.

Locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah, the BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport is priced from RM469,800 on-the-road without insurance, or RM508,200 with the extended warranty and service package. The plug-in hybrid xDrive50e M Sport continues to be sold alongside, at RM25,000 more, and the PHEV is priced at RM494,800 base, up to RM533,200 with the extended warranty and service package.

This marks the return of the non-plug-in hybrid X5 as a mainstream model in Malaysia since the F15-generation 35i model way back in 2014, apart from the short-lived and CBU-only G05 40i in 2019. In recent history, sales of the X5 in Malaysia has largely come from PHEV variants thanks to its tax benefits, starting with the F15 40e in 2016, followed by the G05 45e in 2020 and the current 50e LCI in 2024.

Kitted in the M Sport trim specification, the xDrive40i M Sport is outwardly similar to the PHEV variant. Under the skin, the xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid electrification.

This brings combined outputs of 381 PS and 540 Nm driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Thus equipped, the X5 xDrive40i does the 0-100 km/h acceleration benchmark in 5.4 seconds, onwards to a top speed of 250 km/h.

Chassis equipment is comprised of air suspension which can be raised by 40 mm, and conversely, be lowered by 20 mm in Sport mode, or by up to 40 mm for easier loading of luggage. Suspension configuration is double wishbones in front and a five-link layout at the rear. Rolling stock is a set of 21-inch Style 915 M bicolour alloys, shod in Contiental ContiPremiumContact 6 SSR run-flat tyres, 275/40R21 in front and 315/35 R21 at the rear.

Driving assistance systems in the X5 xDrive40i M Sport includes the Driving Assistant Professional package that brings Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Emergency Stop Assistant, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Change Assistant, Lane Keeping Assistant with side collision protection, Crossing-Traffic Warning in front, Evasion Assistant, Intersection Warning with city braking function, and a wrong-way warning function.

Also on is the Parking Assistant Professional package, comprised of Active Park Distance Control, lateral parking aid, and a Surround View System with Remote 3D View. Automatic parking supports parallel and perpendicular parking manoeuvres, and the Manoeuvring Assistant enables up to 10 preset parking paths to be saved.

Infotainment in the X5 xDrive40i M Sport is the Live Cockpit Professional setup comprised of a 12.3-inch driver instrumentation display and a 14.9-inch central display, powered by BMW Operating System 8.5. The centre console is like that of the PHEV, using a toggle style transmission selector – as in common on current BMW models – and touch-surface controls.

Smartphone integration in the X5 xDrive40i M Sport includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. Interior upholstery is now of the Sensafin synthetic material in a sole colour choice of black, now also on the xDrive50e, rather than the Merino leather that was specified at the PHEV’s launch last year (the PHEV itself switched to Sensafin trim in mid-2024).

Also included in the xDrive40i M Sport are the luggage compartment package, roller sunblinds for the rear side windows, and a wireless device charging tray. All in, the specifications of the mild-hybrid xDrive40i M Sport here are matched by the PHEV xDrive50e, with the powertrain being the key difference. Kerb weights also differ, at 2.2 tonnes for the mild-hybrid xDrive40i, against 2.5 tonnes for the PHEV xDrive50e.

For exterior colours, the selection offered is comprised of Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey and Skyscraper Grey. The 2025 BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport now arrives in Malaysia priced from RM469,800 on-the-road without insurance, or RM508,200 with the extended warranty and service package.

You got your facts wrong. The pre FL G05 was offered in the 40i guise alongside the 45e for a while but because it was more expensive with lesser power, it didn’t sell as well.

  • Just buy the G60 530i la it is so big and transformer looking like a tank and with new interior. This still using 3 series g20 interior and steering. X5 looks dated beside the new 5 especially saw the 530i other day with full bodykits damn nice my girl keep pressing me to buy one. Is it raining money now I asked her

      • Yes. most of the female who saw the g60 5 love it so much I m not even sure why? Guess it will be the next F10 or Bangles E era where ppl rush to grab it after many years. And it will flush the market and u will surely see mamy of it around even even after after 16 years frm now. The G60 is growing on me day by day although I puih at it during photo launch. compared to E class it is a much better choice. And increasing number of owner younger one installing full sport plus body kits which in my opinion improve the car appearance by very much. U just cant omit its presence during a traffic stop ppl just look at it including me and that never happen to a lot BMW aside from the supercar i8 if im not mistaken. Im also surpise a 27 yr old men my customer told me hes getting one and not the 3. Hmm.

Only in SUV segment lasts week j8 launch put me in deep thinking which one should take ,as BMW is proven at least for 5yrs where by j8 jaecoo have long term Vehicle drive issues (if any ) as we dnt have any proof ,only have is 7-10 yrs warranty,
Basic attraction is design and active/passive safety features and price as well

Brother, please don’t compare Jaecoo (C-Seg SUV) against the X5.

It is clearly a few classes above, owners in this class look at Q7, GLE, RR Sport, Cayenne etc.

Jaecoo is a decent car but please, don’t compare apples to Germany’s equivalent of battleship luxury SUVs.

People buying these cars lease them (BMW easy drive) for 5 years and switch out to a next model.

From your comment it doesn’t seem like you’re the target audience (T10-T5 category)

Not smart for T10 (RM10-RM15k income) to buy a RM480k car

        • t10 is not 15k income on Jul 23, 2025 at 12:28 am

t20 is already starts from around 15k income so obviously t10 should be higher than 15k. for once mike tee got his number wrong.

The RX is superior in features(minus the lack of panoramic roof) but the powertrain offered is nowhere near as good as the Germans offerings. The B58 in this X5 is just unrivalled

seems you never drive x5 before, better than rx350 in everyway. the lexus is cbu, in terms of offering from them already lost half. if you want to save money, get a toyota or proton.

I was talking about features you mofo. The X5 is Malaysia is lacking so many things that can be found in RX350. The seats are not real leather like the rx350 has. Same can be said with GLE and Cayenne. Audi Malaysia has learnt the lesson
