Lorry blocking bomba truck in viral video gets saman – PDRM reminds to be alert to siren, lights and give way

Here’s a reminder to be alert on the road and give way to emergency vehicles when there are sirens and flashing lights. A lorry driver has been given a RM300 saman for blocking a fire engine responding to a call on the Ipoh-KL old trunk road.

The video went viral on social media, which then caught the attention of the cops. “In the video, the bomba vehicle is seen trying to overtake the lorry but the lorry seems to be not giving way. This has caused some worry in the community about the safety and priority of emergency vehicles attending to cases,” said Kampar district police chief Mohamad Nazri Daud.

Nazri said in a statement that according to early investigations, the lorry driver did not realise the presence of the fire truck because of his vehicle’s loud engine and fully closed windows. For being oblivious, he’s been handed a saman under Seksyen 9(2), Peraturan-Peraturan Lalu Lintas Jalan 1959 (ln166/59) for failing to give way to a fire truck attending to an emergency.

“PDRM would like to stress that it’s a responsibility for all road users to give way to emergency vehicles such as ambulance, police and bomba when sirens or lights are in use,” he reminded the public. Again, don’t be too immersed in the music or let your mind wander away while driving – be alert not just to what’s in front, but what’s coming from behind as well.
