Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The BMW X7 is BMW’s executive seven-seat SUV and the flagship of its X range, aimed at buyers who want more cabin space and presence than an X5. The G07 LCI generation launched in Malaysia in 2023 and uses a 387 hp 3.0-litre petrol mild-hybrid drivetrain with all-wheel drive. Prices start from RM635,800.

X7 in 2026 — what's new

The BMW X7 carries into 2026 unchanged, with no 2026-specific revision announced. The Malaysian range continues with the seven-seat xDrive40i Design Pure Excellence and xDrive40i M Sport. Both use the 2,998 cc 387 hp petrol mild-hybrid powertrain, automatic transmission and AWD. The G07 LCI facelift introduced 48V mild-hybrid assistance, while the M Sport launch brought adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should take the xDrive40i Design Pure Excellence at RM635,800. It has the same 2,998 cc 387 hp petrol hybrid powertrain, AWD, automatic gearbox and seven seats as the xDrive40i M Sport, which costs RM699,800. That RM64,000 gap is substantial when the listed mechanical specifications are identical. Choose the M Sport only if its sportier trim and its specific equipment matter to you; on paper, you are paying for trim rather than extra power or seats.

Verdict

The X7 is for the buyer who finds the X5 substantial but still wants a larger, more luxurious BMW SUV. Its seven-seat layout, 387 hp six-cylinder petrol mild-hybrid setup and AWD give it the hardware expected of a flagship executive SUV. It is pricier than the Mazda CX-80, Volkswagen Touareg, Volvo XC90, Lotus Eletre and Porsche Cayenne, but remains below the BMW X6’s starting price.
