2025 Jeep Compass – SUV gets petrol plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid versions; BEV up to 650 km range

The Jeep Compass has entered its latest generation as a STLA Medium platform-based model, and the unibody SUV will be offered with fully electric, plug-in hybrid as well as mild-hybrid powertrains.

Produced in Melfi, Italy as with its predecessor, the latest Jeep Compass shares its STLA Medium platform with the Peugeot 3008, Citroen C5 Aircross and Vauxhall Grandland.

A Jeep will need to have some off-roading credentials, and to that end the Compass gets up to 200 mm of ground clearance, with approach, breakover and departure angles of 27 degrees, 16 degrees and 31 degrees, respectively. When water is encountered, the Compass has a fording depth rating of 470 mm.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the 2025 measures 4,548 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,795 mm, or longer than its predecessor by 105 mm and 159 mm on those measures respectively.

Powertrains for the 2025 Compass start with a 143 hp mild-hybrid, and this is joined by a 195 hp plug-in hybrid. Joining these are three battery-electric powertrains, starting with a single 213 hp motor driving the front wheels, ranging up to a 375 hp dual-motor setup.

The dual-motor powertrain of the battery-electric Compass features a rear motor that outputs up to 232 Nm of torque, and when paired with 14:1 reduction gearing, will deliver up to 3,100 Nm of torque at the rear wheels. This enables the Compass to climb slopes of up to 20%, even with zero traction available to the front wheels, says Jeep.

For charging, the BEV versions of the Compass can take up to 160 kW of DC charging, enabling a 20-80% recharge in 30 minutes, while an onboard charger supports up to 22 kW of charging. In its most generous guise, the BEV Compass has a maximum range of 650 km.

Efficiency for the Jeep Compass has been aided by 10%-improved drag coefficient that now brings a value of under 0.30 Cd, says Jeep, thanks to features including an active grille shutter, front and rear wheel air ducts, and a fully flat underbody design.

Inside, standard equipment for the 2025 Jeep Compass includes a 10-inch driver’s instrument display and a 16-inch infotainment touchscreen display; the driver gets a head-up display as well. The vehicle can receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and driving assistance features support Level 2 assisted driving, including semi-automated lane change, says Jeep.

Interior upholstery for the 2025 Compass is cloth and vinyl, with heating and six-way manually adjustable front seats, with driver’s lumbar support adjustment.

The order books for the new SUV in Europe open with the First Edition. Made in Melfi, Italy, as with its predecessor, the latest Jeep Compass will begin customer deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year,

Next-generation Jeep Compass to go on sale with ICE, hybrid, BEV powertrains in 2025; production in Italy

The next-generation Jeep Compass has been teased in a design sketch released by the manufacturer, and this will be built on the Stellantis group’s STLA Medium platform, it has revealed.

Like its 2020 model-year predecessor, the upcoming Compass will be built at the group’s manufacturing plant in Melfi, Italy, though the now the unibody SUV will be built on the SLTA Medium platform that supports internal combustion, hybrid and fully electric powertrains, and which forms the basis of the likes of the Peugeot e-3008. Production will also expand to North America and other markets globally in 2026.

Its powertrains will likely feature a 136 PS mild-hybrid unit paired to a dual-clutch automatic transmission, along with a 213 PS/343 Nm single-motor electric drivetrain with a 73 kWh battery pack such as that installed in the Peugeot e-3008, according to Autocar.

For comparison, the current Jeep Compass gets a 1.3 litre turbocharged petrol engine in 130 hp and 150 hp versions, both with 270 Nm, while a 1.6 litre turbodiesel makes 120 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The current model also gets a 4xe hybrid powertrain that combines an electric motor with the 1.3 litre turbo petrol engine and all-wheel-drive, with 190 hp or 240 hp.

For the Malaysian market, the Jeep brand has been earmarked for reintroduction locally, Stellantis Malaysia revealed earlier this year. This will be positioned as a ‘recreational lifestyle’ brand, in addition to Peugeot and Citroen as well as Leapmotor in the upper mainstream, mass market and affordable EV segments, respectively.
