    Getting its Malaysia market debut at the Kuala Lumpur Bike Show (KLBS) is the 2023 QJMotor SRK600C sportsbike, priced at RM39,888. With pricing excluding road tax, insurance and registration, there are two colour options for the SRK600C – Black or Blue.

    Motive power for the SRK600RC comes from a liquid-cooled, inline-four cylinder mill with DOHC and displacing 600 cc. Mated to a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive, the SRK600C produces 80 hp at 11,000 rpm with 51 Nm of torque at 10,500 rpm.

    For the curious, the four-cylinder Kawasaki ZX-6R which is slated for Malaysian release in 2024 gets 128 hp at 13,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque at 10,900 rpm. Meanwhile, weight for the SRK600RC is cited as 225 kg, while the ZX-6R tips the scales at 198 kg.

    For braking, Brembo does the job with twin 320 mm diameter brake discs clamped by four-piston callipers with Brembo master cylinder, while the rear gets a 260 mm diameter disc with single-piston calliper. ABS is standard equipment.

    Moving on to suspension, Marzocchi supplies adjustable suspension, with an upside-down fork in front and monoshock in the rear. Tyre sizing is 120/70-17 in front and 180/55-17 at the back, with Maxxis supplying the rubber.

    Other equipment includes a TFT-LCD instrument panel and LED lighting is used throughout. 16.4-litres of fuel is carried in the tank and for information, the naked sports SRK600, released in 2022 for Malaysia, is priced at RM35,888.

    Shown at the Kuala Lumpur Bike Show (KLBS) is the 2023 CFMoto 800NK Advanced naked sportsbike, priced at RM38,888 in Malaysia. The 800NK Advanced joins the 800MT adventure-tourer (RM53,800) in CFMoto’s Malaysian line-up.

    Power for the 800NK Advanced comes from a liquid-cooled parallel-twin with DOHC and fed by EFI. According to CFMoto, the 800NK Advanced gets 99.2 hp at 9,500 rpm with a maximum torque of 81 Nm coming in at 8,000 rpm.

    Power goes to the rear wheel via a slipper clutch equipped six-speed gear box and chain final drive. With 15-litres of fuel in the tank, the 800NK Advanced is said to tip the scales at 183 kg.

    Suspension uses KYB upside-down forks in front, while an adjustable monoshock props the rear end. With Bosch ABS as standard equipment, the 800NK Advanced gets J Juan callipers on twin 320 mm diameter discs in front and a single J Juan calliper with 260 mm disc at the back.

    In the cockpit an 8-inch TFT-LCD screen comes with connectivity to the rider’s smartphone along with over-the-air updates to the the 800NK Advanced’s software. Riding conveniences include a Smart Key system that allows for keyless starting as well as opening of the storage compartment and fuel tank cover.

    2023 SYM Tuscany scooter launch at KLBS, RM8,888

    Launched for the Malaysia market at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur Bike Show is the 2023 SYM Tuscany 150 scooter, priced at RM8,888. Pricing does not include road tax, insurance or registration and there are three colours available – Red, Grey and White.

    Hailing from Vietnam, the Tuscany 150 follows the classic Italian scooter styling closely, and comes with a two-year or 20,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects. Power for the Tuscany comes from an air-cooled, single-cylinder engine.

    With the 149.6 cc engine fed by EFI, power for the Tuscany is rated at 14.74 hp at 8,000 rpm with a peak torque of 11.4 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Power goes to the rear wheel via CVT gearbox and belt drive.

    Wheel sizing for the Tuscany 150 is 12-inches front and rear, shod with 110/70 and 120/70 rubber respectively. Braking is done with disc brakes front and rear, with combined braking system.

    Inside the cockpit a monochrome LCD gauge displays all the necessary information while LED lighting is used throughout. The Tuscany 150 carries 5.7-litres of fuel in the tank and the specification sheet lists weight as 273 kg (which has to be a typo.)

    The Kuala Lumpur Bike Show 2023 (KLBS’23) is from 24 to 27 August at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL) with single-day tickets at RM28 and multi-day passes at RM68. Several motorcycle launches are scheduled during the show and manufacturers on display include Honda, QJMotor, CFMoto, Suzuki, Ducati and others.

    Getting a major update is the 2024 KTM Duke 390 naked sportsbike (retailing at RM31,800 in Malaysia for the 2023 model.) Biggest change is in engine capacity and the frame which KTM says gives better power and improved handling.

    The Duke 390’s trellis frame is now a two-piece design comprising of a steel trellis main frame mated to a die-cast forged aluminium sub-frame. The aluminium swingarm is also new, now with a curved design to accommodate a monoshock that is set off-centre to the frame.

    With the monoshock mounted off-center, the Duke 390 has a larger airbox while reducing overall seat height. Citing increased torsional rigidity as the primary benefit, the new Duke 390 frame has improved agility and enhanced feedback from the chassis, giving the rider greater control and stability.

    Biggest change comes in the engine room, with the Euro 5.2 compliant LC4c single-cylinder engine now displacing 398.7 cc, compared to the previous 373 cc. The new power plant comes with redesigned cylinder head and six-speed gearbox, and is rated at 44.25 hp with 39 Nm of torque compared to the 44 hp and 37 Nm of the previous generation.

    Seat height for the Duke 390 is now adjustable by removing a spacer between 820 mm in standard and 800 mm in low mode. This is a big difference from the 830 mm non-adjustable seat height of the outgoing model, while weight is now 165 kg (dry) compared to 149 kg (dry) previously.

    Inside the cockpit, a new 5-inch TFT-LCD display comes with traction control and two selectable ride modes – Road and Rain – while Track mode adjusts the display to track duty, giving prominence to the tachometer, lap timer and gear indicator. Track mode also enables Launch Control which brings the LC4c engine to a peak of 7,000 rpm before the PASC anti-slip clutch is released.

    Bodywork is also new, with longer tank spoilers featuring prominent air intakes, larger radiator covers, and external LED positioning lights. Colour options for the Duke 390 include Electronic Orange and Atlantic Blue while LED lighting is used throughout.

    Braking is done with a four-piston radial-mount calliper in front on a 320 mm disc while the rear gets a 240 mm disc with two-piston floating calliper. Cornering ABS is standard equipment while Supermoto ABS disables ABS braking to the rear wheel, allowing for rear wheel slides.

    The Duke 390 is fitted with a 43 mm WP APEX Open Cartridge front fork with 5-step adjustment for rebound and compression. In the rear, the split piston monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound.

    2023 Zontes 350D

    Now in Malaysia are the 2023 Zones 350D and Zontes 350E scooters, priced at RM23,800 and RM25,800, respectively. Targeteed at the middle-class rider, these duo of Zontes scooters is officially imported by Zontes Distribution, part of Eurotech Wheel Distribution.

    The 350D and 350E carry an identical power plant, a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder displacing 349 cc and fed by EFI. Power is claimed to be 36 hp with 38 Nm of torque, with power going to the rear wheel via CVT gearbox and belt drive.

    A little lighter at 190 kg, the 350D comes with two colour choices – silver or black. 12-litres of fuel is carried in the tank with a estimated 400 km of travel range in Eco mode.

    Meanwhile, the 350E – available in white or black – weighs in at 203 kg and has a longer 1,565 mm wheelbase compared to the 350E’s 1,405 mm. Biased towards the touring side of things, the 350E gets an underseat storage space of 50-litres – enough for two full-face helmets – while twin water resistant pickets in the front cowl has a collective two-litre capacity.

    Both the 350D and 350E come with keyless start along with a electronically adjustable windshield and dual 18 Watt USB charging ports with Type A and Type C connections. Inside the cockpit, a full-colour TFT-LCD screen comes with mobile phone mirroring capability.

    Braking is done in front with J Juan radial-mount four-piston brake callipers with brake discs front and rear. Two-channel ABS is standard equipment while the riding suite includes traction control, tyre pressure monitoring and LED lighting all-round.

    Finally, the 2023 Modenas Kawasaki ZX-25R SE price for Malaysia revealed, at RM33,900, excluding road tax, insurance and registration. The long awaited ZX-25R SE will come with two colours – Lime Green/Ebony and Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Grey/Ebony.

    This news comes after bookings for the ZX-25R were opened at authorised Modenas Kawasaki dealers in Malaysia just under two weeks ago. Expected delivery of the ZX-25R SE is expected to be early September.

    The ZX-25R SE coming to Malaysia will be the latest variant with TFT-LCD instrument panel and two ride modes – High and Low. Also standard will be traction control, two-channel ABS, quickshifter and floating brake discs clamped by four-piston monobloc callipers.

    Power is claimed to be 51 PS at 15,500 rpm with a peak torque of 22.9 Nm at 14,500 rpm. Top speed of the ZX-25R is reported by Kawasaki to be 197 km/h.

    MIROS wants opinions on bicycle safety in Malaysia

    An online survey on bicycle safety in Malaysia is being conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). Titled Bike-Barometer 2023 (Malaysia), the survey is part of an international study across 40 countries by the University of Valencia, Spain.

    A collaborative effort, the study intends to obtain information on factors and phenomena that are putting the safety and welfare of urban cyclists at risk. Participants are required to be over the age of 18, resident in Malaysia (urban or rural), knows how to ride a bicycle and some experience using the local road system.

    MIROS wants opinions on bicycle safety in Malaysia

    The survey questionnaire – in either Bahasa Melayu or English – comprises of a serious of question about yourself and your experience using a bicycle as well as delving into your reactions to hypothetical on-road situations. The survey should take approximately lately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

    No identifying information is recorded and responses will remain anonymous with all data treated as confidential. The first 200 participants completing the survey will receive Touch ‘n Go e-wallet credit worth RM5. Link to the survey is here.

    Getting an update for the Malaysia market is the 2023 Yamaha Y15ZR SE, priced at RM9,498 recommended retail. Pricing does not include road tax, insurance or registration and stocks of the Y15ZR SE will arrive at all authorised Hong Leong Yamaha Motor dealer showrooms from today.

    The Y15ZR SE price of RM9,498 compares against the current model Y15ZR‘s retail of RM8,998 which sold alongside the SE. New for the SE version of the very popular “Y-Suku” is a new blue colour scheme with new graphics.

    Setting the Y15ZR SE apart from the “base” model Y15ZR is the addition of the aero kit. This comprises of a visor located on top of the front cowl and air scoops placed on the sides of the front and rear cowls.

    No other changes for the Y15ZR with power coming from a liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder, 149.7 cc mill putting out a claimed 15.4 PS at 8,500 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. A five-speed gear box with multi-plate wet clutch and chain final drive gets power to the ground.

    2023 GIIAS: Honda EM-1 electric scooter shown

    Seen at the ongoing 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta is the Honda EM-1 electric scooter. With the EM-1 making its debut in Europe this summer, its presence at GIIAS is an indication it will enter the Indonesia market.

    This would not be a big surprise as Malaysia’s ASEAN neighbour has been strongly promoting the take-up and utilisation of electric vehicles, notably in the small motorcycle segment. The EM-1 was last year announced as part of Honda’s plan to release 10 or more electric two-wheelers globally by 2025.

    The ‘EM’ stands for Electric Moped and styling closely follows traditional scooter design language with short wheelbase and flat floorboard for easy mounting and dismounting while wearing work clothes. Intended as a short-range urban electric scooter (e-bike), there EM-1 has short travel range of 40 km from its single battery.

    Calling it a Mobile Power Pack (MPP), the battery is swappable with Honda showing its e:Technology battery swapping station at the show. Other details provided on the EM-1 include a 45 km/h maximum speed with 3.1 hp and 90 Nm of torque coming from the hub-mounted electric motor.

    With a lithium-ion battery pack rated at 29.4 Ah, the EM-1 takes six hours to go to a 100% charge using domestic current while a 25% to 70% charge takes 160 minutes. Weight of the EM-1 with battery onboard is 95 kg while seat height is 775 mm.

    Blueshark and Grab collaborate to push electric vehicle usage for Malaysia’s delivery sector

    Pushing the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) forward in Malaysia is EP Blueshark and Grabcar. Targeting 80,000 Grab driver-partners and delivery-partners the collaboration aims to convert users of internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles to take up Blueshark electric scooters (e-bikes).

    Under the agreement, EP Blueshark will work with Grab to promote and champion what it calls “Green Mobility” and environment, social and governance programmes. The first part of this initiative is called the R1 Pilot Programme where Blueshark will provide 50 Blueshark R1 e-bikes to selected Grab riders for a free product trial.

    The goal goal of this project is data gathering for Blueshark’s e-bikes with the added benefit of cost savings using green mobility. For the second part, Blueshark will provide the IOV Electric Motorcycle, a smart e-bike offered at a special price to Grab delivery riders.

    Along with a factory warranty, Grab riders on Blueshaks can avail themselves of swappable batteries at price of RM79 per pair, per month, for the first six months, and then at RM110 per pair thereafter. In addition, riders are entitled to 3 months of unlimited BlueSwap Pro battery swaps at BlueSwap Battery Swap Stations for RM139 per month, subject to terms and conditions.

    After a year of the Modenas Kawasaki Ninja 250 in the Malaysia market, the 2023 Modenas Kawasaki Ninja 250 ABS is now available in Kawasaki green with red and white graphics. Recommended retail pricing is RM21,800 excluding road tax, insurance and registration, an increase of RM1,300 over the Ninja 250 ABS in black offered last year.

    Every Modenas motorcycle in Malaysia comes with a two-year unlimited mileage warranty against manufacturing defects. Specifications remain unchanged for the Ninja 250 with the same parallel-twin engine

    Displacing 250 cc, the Ninja 250 ABS gets 37 hp at 12,500 rpm with 23 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox equipped with an assist and slipper clutch and power gets to the rear wheel with chain final drive.

    For suspension, the Ninja 250 gets a telescopic fork in front, non-adjustable and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Wheel sizing is 17-inches at both ends shod with 110/70 rubber in front and 140/70 size rear tyre.

    Booking for the Malaysia market 2023 Kawasaki ZX-25R is now open with expected delivery in September. This was announced during the Kawasaki Green Mana day at Gamuda Cove by Edaron Modenas (EMOS).

    The long delayed launch of the ZX-25R was due to various reasons and it is now official Kawasaki’s quarter-litre four-cylinder sports bike will arrive next month. There will be two variants of the ZX-25R on offer – the SE and RR.

    While pricing for the ZX-25R has not been divulged, Modenas chief executive officer Roslan Raskan said it will not exceed RM40,000 recommended retail. From sources in the industry, the price for the ZX-25R is likely to be around RM34,000 for the SE and RM38,000 for the RR version.

    The ZX-25r coming to Malaysia will be the latest version complete with TFT-LCD instrument panel and two ride modes – High and Low. Also standard will be traction control, two-channel ABS, quickshifter and floating brake discs clamped by four-piston monobloc callipers.

    Mian difference between the versions of the ZX-25R is in the suspension, with the SE getting preload-adjustable upside-down front fork and monoshock. Meanwhile, the ZX-25 RR gets Showa SFF-BP 37 mm diameter upside-down forks with preload adjustment and Showa BFRC monoshock with adjustable preload and compression along with graphics inspired by the Kawasaki Racing Team in the World Superbike Championship.

    Now in Malaysia are the 2023 Scrambler Ducati Icon, Nightshift and Full Throttle. The Scrambler Ducati Icon retails at RM62,900, while the Nightshift and Full Throttle are identically priced at RM69,900.

    All pricing for the 2023 Scramblers excludes road tax, insurance and registration. This compares against the 2022 price of RM57,900 for the Scrambler Icon while the Nightshift went for RM66,900.

    Power for the Scrambler Icon, Nightshift and Full Throttle still comes from Ducati’s iconic Desmosdue air-cooled V-twin producing 73 hp. Going on a diet, the Scrambler now weighs 4 kg less than the previous generation, with a redesigned trellis frame and lighter engine internals.

    A new swingarm is combined with a shock absorber with mounting point located to the centreline. The frame redesign now has the main frame and rear sub-frame separated, making crash repairs and modifications easier.

    Also new is the pattern for the alloy wheels though sizing remains the same at 18-inches in front and 17-inches in the rear. Weight savings of 2.5 kg is gained in the engine room, with a new eight-disc clutch and a softer lever pull.

    New for the Scrambler is ride-by-wire throttle which allows the fitting of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and two riding modes – Road and Wet. Standard equipment is cornering ABS and the Scrambler Icon and Nightshift come ready to be fitted with the optional Ducati up-and-down quickshifter.

    The quickshifter is standard equipment on the Full Throttle while the Ducati Multimedia System which connects to the rider’s smartphone is optional across the range. Other design changes include the headlight, which is now a full LED unit, also with redesigned LED taillight and LED turn signals.

    Information is now displayed on the new 4.3-inch color TFT cluster, giving the Scrambler a more modern outlook. The steel tank has been redesigned, as are the side covers, and equipped with an interchangeable cover that, along with the fenders and details on the headlamp, allow the rider to customise the Scrambler to his or her wishes.

    There are nine colour combinations available for the Scrambler Icon obtained through mixing and matching tank colours and panels. The Nightshift comes in Nebula Blue while the Full Throttle is available only in Red.

    United E-Motor Indonesia to export e-bikes to Malaysia

    A new electric motorcycle (e-bike) brand is expected in Malaysia soon, United E-Motor from Indonesia. The United E-Motor brand comes under the aegis of PT Terang Dunia Internusa (PT TDI).

    The company has three manufacturing facilities with production geared towards both the domestic and export e-bike markets. Its latest factory is located in Curug, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Indonesia.

    In a report in Indonesian daily Tempo, the company’s general manager, Andry Dwinanda, said a deal has been signed with a Malaysian distributor. However, the name of United E-Motor’s Malaysian counterpart was not named.

    Established in 1991, United E-Motor has a production capacity of one million units a year across two plants with 1,200 workers located on a 70,000 square meter plot. Its current product lineup consists of four electric scooters with prices ranging from 14.8 million rupiah (RM4,439) to 50 million rupiah (RM14,998).

    Ni Hsin EV Tech Malaysia and Food Panda team up for delivery services using electric motorcycles

    A partnership between Ni Hsin EV Tech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia-listed firm Ni Hsin Group, and delivery service Food Panda will see electric motorcycles (e-bikes) utilised. In a statement, an agreement has been signed between the two parties.

    With the aim of reducing carbon emissions, supporting eco-friendly transportation solutions and promoting sustainability within the food industry, the collaboration will see EBixon e-bikes replacing ICE motorcycles for Food Panda delivery services.
