MINI One – limited edition 31 units to debut in early August 2011 – more details unveiled!

The MINI Malaysia Facebook page has unveiled another teaser image for the upcoming limited edition MINI One. The following are the details that we can gather from the image:

  • It advertises monthly repayments of only RM1,111 per month from BMW Credit, but we suspect this may be the lowest tier of a step up financing program as that amount for even a 9 year loan is under RM120k, which is an improbable price tag for a MINI in Malaysia.
  • Only 31 units available.
  • Two choices of colours – Chilli Red and Pepper White.
  • We also know that the Mini One uses a detuned version of the normally aspirated 1.6 litre engine in the MINI Cooper – 98 horsepower at 6,000rpm, 153Nm at 3,000rpm.
  • The image above shows what looks like steel wheels… they can’t be serious?!?!

Whether it is something intentional or not, this limited edition has all the signs that it’s dedicated to celebrate this year’s Hari Merdeka.

The car is only available in red and white – two dominant colours on the Malaysian flag, it’s to be launched in our month of independence in August, and it’s limited to 31 units which represents the 31st of August, our independence day. And who can ignore the MINI One name and the RM1,111 installment amount which refers to 1Malaysia?

for 98hp is way too low for a 1.6 car. even a gen-2 1.3 can develop 95hp. too much of detuned?

My wife used to own a mini one few years ago.

What we did was since its a detuned engine, remap it after warranty.

Easily bumped the power to around 120hp, which is the same as standard mini cooper.

      Performance difference was staggering.

so for the first 3 years while the car is in warranty, an 80K fiesta could smoke the mini at the lights?

but for the mini one, 31 units, why not just slam in a set of alloys. steel wheels are a no no…… is it an auto or manual?

The so call financial program would later mean RM1,111 for 1st year, 1,222 for second and third, follow by 1,599 for the remaining years..

this is BMW’s credit “airbag financing” package….as the name suggests, installment starts to “inflate” as you pay over the months….meaning, you pay more and more as the car depreciates more and more….this airbag financing package is hardly advertised ( probably not anymore ) but it is still available on case to case basis…just talk to your BMW/Mini salesperson to find out more….quite a number of ppl take up this package n trade in their cars after 2-3 yrs as the instalments get higher…so they drive a brand new beemer every 2-3 yrs….ala rich n famous…but in reality hutang sekeliling pinggang….

With rm120k price tag, honestly i perfer buy Honda Civic ST. Hea, Should mass production with 1.3 cc (1275cc) real GT or Original Cooper. and cut down thwe price.
Hoever, what to do with brand BMW. Standard. So, only for those some privilege and affluent class people. If and only if produce basic mini with not luxury type , below 7-figure price , great,

Wow, they actually super-imposed/photoshopped a flat image of steel wheels onto the Mini One.

Paul, why would a rm120k price be improbable? Why do people always over-estimate the price of the cars?

It is nothing but greed on the manufacturers part to price high. There are enough tax breaks, loopholes for them to price the car low. But they dont. And it doesnt help when someone as ‘reputable’ as you also ‘inflates’ the estimated price.

Wishful thinking does not make something any less improbable.

Looking at the steel wheels, i’d say 120K is not impossible. But I’m guessing they’ll be cutting down on lots of stuffs. Maybe u have to manually wind down the windows? lol.
