Mercedes-Benz CLA 45, GLA 45 AMG get new A 45’s updates – 381 hp, faster shifts and dynamic dampers

It’s now official. Mercedes-Benz AMG has previously stated that updates introduced on the A 45 facelift will be applied to its related models too. So now, the CLA 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake and GLA 45 AMG have all received a triplicity of improvements, which include a power bump, faster shifts and enhanced driving dynamics.

All this will be applied as running updates, and the enhanced AMG models will be heading to showrooms by the end of the third quarter this year. So, there’s no need to wait until the facelift comes in to enjoy the improvements already announced for the Mercedes-AMG A 45.

Both the CLA and GLA AMG models will have similar engine tweaks that’s been done on the M133 AMG 2.0 litre twin-scroll turbo that’s under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG A 45 facelift. Outputs are up to 381 hp and 475 Nm of torque – an increase of 21 hp and 25 Nm.

Like the A 45, the transmission – the AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed dual-clutch automatic – will have better, quicker shift times too, plus shorter gear ratios from the third to seventh gear. The latter enables smoother gear transitions and upshifts as well as improved acceleration throughout the speed range.

Also introduced is the AMG Dynamic Select transmission modes, similar to the ones found the in the AMG GT and C 63 AMG. It’s a rotary switch that enables drivers to choose between Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual modes at the twist of a knob.

The optional AMG Dynamic Plus package is new too, which adds a mechanical front axle locking differential to give even better handling and grip when pushed hard. The package also comes with AMG Ride Control sports suspension that features a Race mode and a two-stage adaptive adjustable dampers.

In Malaysia, the current CLA 45 AMG goes for RM396,888 on-the-road excluding insurance, while the GLA 45 AMG costs RM375,888. We’ll keep you updated when these enhancements will come our way.
