VIDEO: Tesla Model S first customer checks it out

Tesla Model S

Here’s more electric sedan news! While Detroit Electric is still preparing for its first E-Persona to roll off Proton production lines in Q1 or Q2 2010 (though prototypes already exist and we’ve tried them out), Tesla let its first buyer Steve Jurvetson have a ride in a pre-production Tesla Model S that actually looks pretty good and ready to go, from the outside at least. Check out the video after the jump recorded by Mr Jurvetson – that huge touch screen in the interior is definitely very impressive looking to anyone who gets into the car. Jurvetson also already owns a Tesla Roadster. Lucky guy!

this is the car of the future and the future of the car!

only thing we'll miss is the sound from the exhaust / engine. but i suppose if you grow up with an electric car, you'll never know what u've missed with a petrol engine.

the funny thing is, electric cars have been around since the the early 1900's. which is where the original detroit electric started their business in 1908 or something. but today, we view it as the future..

also of interest, if you look back at pauls archives.. theres a story on how lotus plans to put "sounds" to electric cars, coz the europeans are worried they will become pedestrian hazards in future.

Bah, hardly anything about the performance of the car from the video.

I expected something far more geeky for someone who finishes his BSEE in 2.5 yrs. At the very least, turn the damn music off and let us hear how silent it is.

The minority-report-screen-thing is cool but am I able to go for another 20 km if I remove the touch screen?

Do we have anyone study on the topic about high capacity batteries disaster? Someone gotta know how to handle two or more EV crumpled into one large pile of battery waste.
