Malaysia will finally get Ford’s D-segment sedan entry, the new Ford Mondeo sometime next month. Sime Darby Auto ConneXion has revealed that the Malaysian spec Mondeo will get a 161 PS 2.3 litre Duratec engine mated to a 6-speed Durashift torque converter automatic transmission (would be nice if it was a PowerShift instead though). The Ford Mondeo will be a CBU unit imported from the Ford production plant in Genk, Belgium. AutoConneXion will be organising a series of exclusive preview sessions for members of the public leading up to the official launch in October. You can get your own personal invitation by calling Tania of AutoConneXion at 03-77181223 or 03-77181216.

Comments generally express excitement and anticipation for the Malaysian launch of the Ford Mondeo 2.3 with a 6-speed auto, highlighting its superior handling, stylish design, and European quality. Many commenters expect a price range around RM150,000-RM170,000, though some fear it might remain too high due to CBU import costs, which could limit sales. Critics mention past Ford models' high maintenance costs and compare the Mondeo to other European and Japanese sedans like Camry, Accord, and Passat, debating its competitiveness based on price and features. Several suggest that pricing it aggressively between 140,000-160,000 RM is crucial for success. Overall, there's optimism that the Mondeo will be a stylish, well-engineered alternative in Malaysia's D-segment, with some skepticism on pricing and market acceptance.
