Once u get hands on on one of these, quickly request from the salesperson to swap the Inokom badge to the Hyundai badge just like what the Forte owners did from Naza to Kia.

But i tot it will be a CBU so shud haf Hyundai badge?

I personally prefer Inokom badge more than Naza. Inokom’s reputation for service shud be better than Naza.

Hyundai Tucson is under Hyundai Logo.
      I10,Getz,Matrix is under Inokom Logo.
The reason why they want install Inokom logo is because the spare part and body structure from Korea but installed in Malaysia,Therefore the price will be cheaper.Normally people in malaysia wont buy the original price of car from korea except installed in malaysia so that will be cheaper.

I find the prices of 3 variances not attractive, when I find the spec to be short-changed. For Honda CRV, it is cheaper than Tucson 2.4L, except no panorama sunroof.

What is missing in the 2.0L High Spec, the price is acceptable if the air-cond is auto instead of manual, and if the cruise control in included. How can Sime Darby exclude these 2 items for the High Spec?

      • KY Lee, you need to check the specs of the Tucson before commenting ;)

The Tucson 2.0 high-spec model sells at RM136k vs the CRV’s RM149k but the CRV does not have:
        Auto-dimming rear view mirror
        Semi-leather seats
        Start stop button
        Keyless entry
Lit vanity mirrors for both driver and passenger
        6-speed gearbox
Panoramic sunroof (front and rear seats)
        Rear centre 3-point safety belt
        Hill descent control

The Tucson loses out to the CRV on:
        2-zone auto climate control
        Cruise control
        2 side airbags
        4WD (only the 2.4 is 4WD)

Did you really check on CRV’s spec before you post this message? In term of equipment and safety features, CRV is way too little compare to this, some more will a price about 150k. You had 2.4 liter of engine and other equipment. This SUV is way superior then CRV, the only problem for them is BRAND and AFTER SALES SERVICE and QUALITY. If their pricing is lower, the popularity will sure gain a lot…

has a “feeling”, which maybe not true, it’s slightly over-priced…

I think the 2.0 should be RM106k and RM116k. Then the 2.4 at RM132k although even at the proposed price it still seem better than CRV but that’s just the engine.

For RM152k, you get CRV which is bigger though smaller engine, etc. I think CRV at least you get better network after-sales support — not that I’m supporting Honda but more of how the pricing and perception should be.

Maybe because it’s being a new model, the price might come down a bit either through re-badging to INOKOM, CKD it or lowering specs after 12 months.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
      • If you think the harsh-riding CRV is luxurious on the road, then you have to try the Kia Rondo which, IMHO, has a more “luxurious” feel on the road :)

Each time I take my brother’s CRV for a drive, the drive experience falls short when compared with my Rondo.

Tyre noise is above average, the suspension is too thrashy for my liking and the gutless engine does no favours. The only thing I like is the refined gearbox.

What about Sonata? I got info from other car dealer websites, the booking price for sonata is RM140K. Is it true? If it is true, then bravo Hyundai! You are now a direct rival for H and T. Major thing that you must set up right no is the after-sale service. Many opted to T and H because of their good after-sale service. Hope you will not let down Malaysian again…

Hello … Please review the ranking for Top Auto Maker.

          1. Toyota
          2. General Motors
          3. Volks Wagen Group
          4. Hyundai Kia
          5. Ford
          6. Peugeot – Citroen
          7. Honda
          8. Nissan

There seems to be quite a gap between the other two japanese makes compared to the Koreans.

Ironically your statement seems to conceed that it will happen .. just a matter of when.

Ironically a Paultan post on automotives most valuable brands revealed that BMW is #1, Toyota #2, Honda #3, Merc #4 and Porsche #5. Hyundai Kia at best would be #6, though I would pretty much doubt it.

    • Hondan,

I beg to differ. SD has a long booking list for the Tucson as we speak with most bookings evenly split between the 2.0 high-spec and the 2.4. Nobody is bothered with the 2.0 standard-spec.

The Kia Sportage is not even officially selling yet. All we have seen is a world premiere. Personally, I like the Tucson better than the Sportage but I like the Sorento more than the facelifted Sante Fe. The grill opening is just too big on the Sportage.

But yes, Naza will price the Sportage at a very sweet price but it will only come with a 2-year warranty against Hyundai’s 5-years. Up to the buyer to choose which car they want.

Already see the car in real. A good car indeed, with the spec provide, it is way above many of its competitor. CRV? just like an empty SUV. But as it is a hyundai, although this SUV is directly imported from Korea, if want to gain more market in Malaysia and change the mindset of all Malaysian, price and after sales will be the main target. Although the price is not bad but seriously if it is cheaper, then it will be more easy to sale.

I agreed that for high spec model it should include the suto aircond and aslo the auto cruise. These are basic feature for medium price car actually.

SD is definitely making a BIG mistake in this. It is not about how much these features are used, but these are quite important feature which should be included. Sunroof is even less used, if you asked me…..

Getting dissappointed on this sort of decision and it shows you how good these companies are. Penny wise pound fullish….

    • Openmind,

I never use cruise control even though my car has it so, to me, it is a non-issue.

The air-cond is also a relatively small minus when put against all the other features that are offered.

I always look at the glass as half-full.

The sunroof is not an ordinary sunroof. It is a panaromic 2-piece sunroof which completely changes the interior ambience of the car. The rear panel allows passengers to look up and see the rain as it falls or the stars when it isn’t hazy. I know my kids will love it :) For me, the entire glass top will mean I have one less metal panel to detail.

      The sunroof

Way to go Hyundai! Put a stop sign to T & H cars that being overpiced since day 1! for the reason of high tax because I am sure SD also pay tax. Take thousands from buyers and spend hundreds for free service! – doesn’t matter, byers don’t realize it. Another strategy, set-up used-car company to maintain high resale value!

Please Consider Before You Decide To Sign (Tucson 2.0) :-

    No Side airbag
    No Side curtain
    No Power seat
    No Reverse camera
    No Xenon Light
    No GPS
    No Full Leather Seat
    No Subsidised Interest Rate (3.5%@9yrs)
    No 2nd Hand Value

Hahaha! Good drivers don’t need airbag and reverse camera. Anyone here ever used an airbag? If feel unsecure, just pay to install. Don’t loan so much so the 3.5% interest won’t give much impact. Buy 2.4 to get a 4WD.

There is no rational reason to make an SUV except to increase carbon emissions, reduce fuel efficiency and increase profits for car companies. Buying something that is so abusive to the environment is telling the world that you do not care about global warming. That you care less about others than your own self esteem.

Dude, Honda is way OVERPRICED, we all know that, but it doesn’t mean SD should play catch up, it will only drive prices higher as we would soon see… their current price of this tuscon is too near the honda, yes it is and they would be making a huge profit with this price already i bet, SD loves profits, the way it prices its cars makes it look that way to me at least. If they were to sell at atleast 10k less, we would see honda and toyota shitting bricks and lowering their prices, ie: Price war which would be damn fun for us consumers.. more kit low price :) so if we all as consumers team up, and shout at SD’s price we may be able to influence the other market players… show them that Malaysian are fed up of paying so much for bare bones cars!

By the way, the 5 yrs warranty is not from SD, but given by Hyundai ( check this out at Hyundai Korean). This means SD wants to make tons of money from its customers.

  • I was witnessed the car and found much better than some Japanese and pretty spacious ONLY drawback, rear-most compartment somewhat smaller than CRV.

BTW, “i30 pricing” definitely will hurt this suv/suv-like potential just like Hyundai i45/Sonata YF when they unveil later.

SD must get it right, wrong pricing will not help Hyundai new buyers as you hardly can ignore the HISTORY.

Why not sacrifice a bit here and there as long as more people embrace Hyundai. And definitely Pricing helps as well as TURBODIESEL- the latter will make Japanese competition irrelevant since the ore mileage advantage that hard to rule out.

Price higher or the same level with Japs (even with extra goodies) people will have a field day about it for being expensive. Price lower they will say it is because Korean makes are sub par.

I think this dilemma is extended to all Japs and Korean products as well. Sony and Panasonic is always better than LG or Samsung, right?

My comment is, when you first look at it… outlook attract you…

Then you go into the cabin, the dashborad is nothing special.. build quality average…

At the back, the leg room is spacer…should be confort for long drive..if they can add in adjustable real seat, that will be a +.

Start the engine, NVH is good. Start the rise, ohhhh…..even with 6 speed, still feel tht the engine sound loud…liek putting a lot of stress on it… When drive at D….very shacky…change to manual, better rise now…

When come to take conner…oohhh….still way lack behind CRV…

In short, this TUCSON is better than other competitor (same range) but perform below CRV.

tested one yesterday @ glenmarie office

    very torquey and quiet

white looks great but ice blue is even better looking…lol

however, 2.0L high specs is now missing electric driver seats, 6 cd changer, full spare rim & tyre and rumours had it that the next batch coming in will be without the auto dimming rear mirror.

suspension was quiet and comfortable…rear is a multilink system.

but wipers look a little cheapskate and roof rail comes only in silver

overall, this is one hell of a SUV. Interior wise is as huge as the interior of Vitara.

value buy if one consider from the aspect of technology used and sophistication level

Overpriced if one look from the point of branding only!

I wouldnt buy a car solely based on brand and get lesser

I would rather buy a car looking at it in totality aspect and once you begin to tradeoff any aspects of the car to justify your purchase…end ot the day it would not be lesser

All in all, Tucson is nothing lesser than CRV or Xtrail!

I’m really looking forward to the Tucson. Booked the 2.0 H/S early Apr, hope HSDM can deliver the car soonest possible.

I know you guys are comparing it to the CRV, but this Tucson is meant to replace my Perdana, and I cannot ask for more; there is just no comparison between the Tucson & the Perdana.

Personally the 5 years warranty/300,000km is a plus. Unless you intend to sell off the Tucson, I won’t worry too much about 2nd hand value.

I fully agree with u. I don’t understand why are they comparing it with other cars. If prefer crv, just go ahead and get one (if they REALLY can afford but I doubt they can afford a Tucson..haha). What u pay is what u get. Same principle – If want a prettty gf u must be able to afford LV, Prada, Gucci…if only can afford Vincci, Padini, don’t complain that ur gf is not as pretty as others.

Well said, and excellent example. Like you put it, a brand/make is a personal preference. Some would pay the earth just for a particular LV or Prada item (as in BMW/Merc) but others might I can live with this Vincci/Padini (i.e. Honda/Hyundai) :)

I thought Bermaz bringing in the MazdaSpeed 3… That’s the turbo version, right? I heard from my friend the MazdaSpeed 3 would be RM200k at least.

Thankfully I booked the Tucson early Apr before any official announcement etc. So my booking is considered first batch. Wow now it’s 2-3 months wait time! That is long!

I’m thoroughly impressed with the stride & progress the Koreans have made in such a short time. And the fact remains that more Americans buy these vehicles now. Statistics show clearly if you do some research. Also there has been less reliability problems & poor fuel consumption is a thing of the past.

Worldwide adoption & acceptance is crucial to any automaker, and needless to say, majority decision makes or breaks this game; to say the least that the big US of A holds that title, though the Chinese are gaining a very strong presence, and it may not be long before they overtake the Americans as the No 1 consumer for the automotive industry.

The 2010 Tucson & Sonata clearly stands out from the competition in terms of design. The 2010 Avante is also one of the better looking mid-size sedans. It definitely seems like it is in direct competition to the Altis and Civic. No vehicle is perfect. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. At the end, it all comes down to personal preference & the price one is willing to pay. Second hand values are subjective only if the owner has intention to sell the vehicle.

Only time will tell whether these product(s) actually delivers. This I am certain, that we are all only too eager…

Maintenance wise – According to the salesman, u don’t need to change the gear oil – lifetime warranty but recommended change it for every 100k km. Personally for me, It’s value for money – In the meantime, don’t hu ha about the pricing unless the over protecting policy on locar manufacturers is lifted by the g’ment. Go for 2.0 h/s at least… Give a bit more time to SD to give some extras before buying this Tucson. hahaha!

Test drive one in Glenmarie office and now awaiting for loan approval

Just imagine, 2.4L @RM152k less RM5k as overtrade already cheaper than CRV, let alone if your insurance has further NCB discount.

Like Jason and Vincent have feedback, the engine sound was due to the variable intake system when the pedal is being floor. However, if I am not wrong most SUV has a similar trait to have louder engive sound as compared to sedan cars e.g. Xtrail, Vitara, CRV and 4×4

Body roll was at minimal level as well as nose dip during emergency braking.

Kevin, thanks for the feedback. You booked the 2.4 or the 2.0 HS?

Overtrade means you are to trade in your previous vehicle?

Overall can you describe the test drive? How do you rate the NVH, handling and more importantly the 6-speed gearbox?

      2.0 HS

RM5k on top of of my current car second hand value in the market place

It was torquey, responsive, gear shifting is smooth, tiptronic gear very responsive, suspension front and back was very quiet, NVH was good and car was very stable around corners and potholes.

However, some would find the engine sound abit sporty. New driver to SUV would need to accustom to the A pillar as it would be a blind spot to some.

After visiting several showroom, i get the opportunity to test Tucson:-

    Thumbs UP ++
    1. Dual CVVT
    2. 6 Speed Gear
    3. 5 Years or 300k KM Warranty
    4. Anytime anyspeed can switch auto to manual or back.
    5. Handsome Look
    6. Lifetime Warranty Gear Box oil (if you not climb Genting Everyday)
    7. More option then boring T&H marque.

    Down —
    1. Lack Of Pickup (Shame to Dual VVT)
    2. Horrible sound to deliver pickup (Shame to Theeta 2 engine)
    3. Air Cond sound noisie. (CBU aircond always fail to deliver)
    4. Cheap plastic dashboard+door trim
    5. Lousy audio
    6. Cheap Tyre Hankook
    7. Overpricing compare same spec engine ie tiptronic in Kia Rondo.
    8. Consider overweight 1.4ton mid suv if compare with Exora more bigger same 1.4ton
9 .Limited features should offer BCM like Exora ie intermitent wiper +++

2.How do you measure the noise of air cond sound? by ur ear or by the equipment? If possible show your data in dB.

Test drove the 2.0 Std Spec at Glenmarie today. My opinion:

    Pros:
    1. Striking design (2.0 H/S trim better)
    2. Panaromic sunroof
    3. Smooth gear shifting
    4. Decent torque (I think the test unit not properly run in yet; there is room for improvement after run in; the Odometer 700km only)
    5. Good NVH
    6. Air-cond cool & quiet (IMHO)
    7. Good clearance for ramp departure angle/wheel clearance
    8. Pretty comfortable front seats, rear seats OK only
    9. Electrical steering easy on turns perhaps a little too artificial feel but that saves on fuel consumption
    10. Interior trim decent (could be better)
    11. Good front view when in driver’s seat
    12. Good rear seating space, low middle hump as in other SUVs

    Cons:
    1. Local spec 2.0 Std/HS does not come with driver’s electric seat adjustment (electric driver’s seat only on 2.4)
    2. No auto cruise
    3. No full size spare rim (steel rim only)
    4. High step up to enter vehicle
    5. Not full leather
    6. Engine noise a little “harsh” when pushed but that could be due not run in properly yet
    7. No Rear center 3-point seat belt (US version comes with that as std)
    8. No folding side mirrors

Overall I can say it’s a good/decent buy. Honestly HSDM should insist on bringing in the Cons as std options but then again they might jack up the price.

the semi leather seat….may be the market trend now.

I believe the new Tucsons do away with hydraulic power assisted steering. There is no power steering fluid located in the engine bay. It uses an electric motor which saves fuel. You can check details on the Internet.

Actually I like the semi leather seats. While black may cause the cabin to look a bit “small” it’s much easier to maintain than beige or white colored fabrics.

If I’m not mistaken the new Tucson & Sonata does away with a hydraulic power assisted steering. There is no power steering fluid in the engine bay. You can verify this when you look inside the engine compartment. It uses an electric motor which saves fuel.

I’ve given up on lamenting when it comes to buying vehicles (automobiles) here in Boleh-land. My friends Down Under & in the Big US of A more than often laugh at the deals we get. No matter how we try, we as consumers will be at the losing end, due to the profiteering by “certain” individuals & the “G”.

Most of the time, we consumers don’t really have “choices” to make when it comes to vehicle options. It’s like we have to “take it or leave it”. As long as I’m breathing Boleh-land air & living in its environment, I will have to just “take it or leave it”….

SUV has advantages over a regular sedan, my previous Perdana had numerous knocks here & there going over extra high speed bumps, parking & kerb knocks because it’s not high enough and especially treading higher than normal water levels when it floods!

When I get the wheels I’ll give a thorough feedback.

Generally, any shipments leave korean factory there should have the ETA…date and may be HSDM have to allow some buffer time for custome clearance…right?

I have gone through the review of this car in Australia, generally the comment is the good one and in Australia offered 6 airbags, cruise control, full leather seat and a lot more than what we are getting here. the demand is not bad according to the comments, some of them will only getting their car somewhere in June.

In singapore, the review also have mentioned the engine noise if you rev over 4000rpm and seem the price over there quite expensive and may be the demand is not that good…but the Singaporean likes the Kia Forte, infact the Forte engine 2.0L, keyless entry is similar to Tucson but the gear box is diff.

Seriously, they should provide us a tentative date rather than telling it would be somewhere in June or 3 months waiting period! Furthermore, there is already 200 over booking nationwide.

However, I wanted Grey Titanium but the SA told me that the colour is unavailable for HS 2.0L, any truth to that claim?

At first it was the electric seat got misprinted but now some told me that the HS 2.0L is without the luggage net and auto down window only, can anyone reaffirm this?

It seems the HSDM SA or SMgr don’t have time to visit Uncle Paul blog page to clear some of the confusions created from inconsistency in dissemination of information!

I was pretty annoyed when I got to know that the HS 2.0L is without the electric driver seat…this is what you get in return for booking awal awal!

What is the HP rate now, I was told lowest at 3.2%@7yr by SD financial crony.

I booked my car on 2nd May, my loan have approved after 1 week later and i think i got the best rate so far at 3.18% for 5 years.

Honda car is offering 3.25% and i think Nissan car is the cheapest…starting from 1.98%, with the subsidiary direct from Nissan car.

How come you trade in your car so early? usually when we trade in our car upon getting our new car.

I suspect HSDM play the game safe, at first they bring in some unit for the showroom and then they will order more cars only base on the booking quantity available from the consumer.

Any now the demand is generally good…then they start to cut down some equipment…
The reason HSDM given was the printing mistake, there are only few rows for the equipment lists, do you think they can simply just make a mistake???

    Summary:
    1. As it was mentioned, thank you HSDM for making a great vehicle mediocre by skimping on essentials on the pretext of lowering cost. Invariably, the selling price is not entirely favorable, obviously priced such because at this point of time there is no direct competition to the Tucson with exception of the CRV, that is why it’s priced as such. HSDM knows it has a trump card in the SUV department, until similar vehicles are launched from competitors, don’t expect prices to come down. Perhaps subsequent deliveries will include features omitted from initial launch (i.e. driver’s power seat for the 2.0 H/S).
    2. We as consumers have no right to choose the options we so desire as in other countries namely the US of A. This is done to safeguard the spare parts department so it will obviously lower cost and inventory headaches. They will tell you, if you’re not happy, just cancel the order & migrate to the land of the Yanks or Down Under.
    3. It is because of the tax structure in our country that puts tremendous pressure on both consumers and Companies alike; while I do not condone practices as what HSDM did with the Tucson, I can also empathize with such corporations because they are here to make a profit and NOT for charity. I do not blame such corporations for their pricing structure. They answer to shareholders and at the end, they have to show the bottom line financially.
    4. At the end, we consumers bear the brunt of the cost and depreciation. On a lighter note, at least we can “keep” our vehicles beyond 10 years unlike our cousins from Singapore with its ubiquitous COE/PARF system.
    5. HP rate I was given 3.25% PA, I believe that’s applicable to loans up to 5 years.
    6. I’m just gonna enjoy my ride. After all, many years ago, I paid RM100k for a vehicle from Proton named the Perdana V6 which served me faithfully without any problems whatsoever besides the usual maintenance. Personally I think RM136k is a fair price to pay for the 2.0 H/S and within my budget.

    Hi Guys,

I’m not a very car savvy guy but when i first saw the Tucson, I was like wow. The design was excellent. The back portion from a glance, looked like Audi Q7 (Maybe its just me :) ).
Anyway, I’m seriously considering this car.
I was thinking of getting the CR-V before this, but now, after looking at this, the CR-V doesn’t look appealing anymore.

Just wanna check with you guys,
Lets forget that CR-V is from Honda and Tucson is from Hyundai, and forget about the price.
Now, which car would be better? In terms of design, comfort, reliability, and safety?

I have sat in the CRV but never had the opportunity to test drive it. In the end, it’s all about your budget and preference. If you intend to sell your vehicle in 3-5 years time, obviously the CRV would yield a better 2nd hand value, due to the name associated with Honda, though that will not have any bearing whatsoever to the reliability of that brand.

For me, it was affordability and features that secured the deal. While I would have preferred to have bought a CRV for that sum of $$$, I am more than willing to take the chance with this alternative brand in anticipation that the Japanese were faced with the same predicament 20 odd years or so ago.

I do believe the Koreans have come of age, and while the current pricing of their vehicles are obviously affected by local policies and profitability, and it has nothing to do with market demand and acceptance, I am willing to put my money in their product only because it meets my budget criteria. As I have said, it is entirely my own opinion and preference, but it has also been influenced by the global community & at the end, I can only hope HSDM will not prioritize their profits too much at the expense of consumer satisfaction.

A dealer just told me Tucson will be RM3k more expensive after 7th June due to some BS tax or fee imposed on it by Hyundai. Any truth to it? Or just another sales gimmick to push buyer to buy the 1st batch before the 2nd batch with better specs arrives?

Hi guys, I’ve just made a booking for the Tucson (Black Colour), waiting list is currently 3 months. Hope i can get it earlier though. From the test drive, I’d say its a good catch.
Its just peoples perception now that’s in the way. But i think this time around, Hyundai / Kia is and will make a global impact including here in Malaysia.

The only setback about the Tucson here in Malaysia is the lowered specs compared to the ones in other countries (The extra air bags, cruise control & rear view camera i think).

  • Just received an email from my SA. Says Tucson shipment delayed. Could be another month. Sigh. :( Was hoping to get mine early this June. Could now be delayed till July or Aug. But confirmed I should be getting the first batch since I booked the car (loan approved etc) 1st week of April and one of the earliest to place a booking. He did apologize & says it is well beyond his control. I don’t blame him. Though HSDM could have handled it a bit better.

  • Just got the latest pricelist, apparently the Tucson’s price revised upwards it’s now RM139k for the 2.0 High Spec, RM154k for the 2.4L.

I think the ix35 is an excellent product, obvious by the shortage globally and good consumer feedback from abroad. However I think HSDM is taking advantage of this. Prices should not have risen that “quickly”. Also the fact is they launched a new car without giving an accurate date of actual availability.

This pales in comparison to the new F10 BMW 5 series that was recently launched in Singapore, the first batch received their keys on the exact date stipulated when they booked the car a while back.

Anyione has a picture of the low spec 2.0 litre Tucson? Am weighing the benefits of the high spec versus low spec model.

My only problem with the car is the low visibility due to smallish rear window. Was told installing a camera set up will cost about RM2k.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • Personally I’d go High Spec 2.0L, the Low Spec has too many omissions (notably the keyless entry/Start/Stop function, panaromic sunroof etc) which IMHO costs more than the price diff. But at the end it’s up to you.

Installing a rear camera won’t cost RM2K. I fixed one for my other vehicle (a good reliable brand) for RM700, and that’s considered expensive already, but the shop I installed from had a good reputation for excellent workmanship and also I installed a immobilizer from them as well and their “recovery” rate for car theft is thus far 100%.

    • Jason,

Not sure about the stock “dark tint” with the Tucson. If yes, that’s better. I’m having V-Kool Elite done by my SA entirely for the whole car including the sun-roof and the moon-roof. Approx RM3.6k thereabouts. Just my personal preference for V-Kool Elite.

As for the Rear camera, yes it comes with a 2.5″ LCD, which for my other vehicle, I mounted on the dashboard (driver’s side) just next to the A-pillar. It’s adjustable (tilt etc) so you can angle it nicely.

My SA did not offered any tinted screen even though i have asked earlier.

Have been researching the new Tucson for months and done two test drives.

My two main problems with the car despite its seemingly competitive pricing, which btw went up by RM3k recently, are:

    1. The poor visibility in the rear caused by a small and narrow back window.

    2. Hyundai’s reputation for poor resale value. Even though the salesman said the new models are much better than the older ones, this does not change the perception of the brand. May takes a few years.

So may be a good idea to buy the car second hand after 2-3 yrs and you could get it 30-40% cheaper by then.

  • Jeremiah,
I don’t disagree with you for the comments you put in. Bottom line is there is no “perfect” car/vehicle. All have advantages & disadvantages. You have do decide what fits your budget and personal preference & obviously you have to first like the vehicle enough for you to buy it.
I haven’t owned a new “proper” car in 10 years so for me 2nd hand value doesn’t really hold as I’ve not sold any of my previous cars (yet). Plan on keeping this one for sure since I kept my first car for 10 years…

Where do you mount the LCD for the camera? I would prefer sort like touch screen that build-in camera monitor, player & navigation into one.

If the camera monitor is add-on on top of dashboard, it will look a bit odd and occupy a spacing there.

Remember to feedback and share once you have driven the car.

According to SA in Glemarie, Tucson 2.4 is now sailing on the sea and ETA around mid of July…..i got to wait for another month. Hopefully this info is true.

  • Don’t know of any “clubs”…. Hey BTW does our Tucson come with a FULL sized spare tire? I remember I checked the spare is 225/xx/R17 but the spare rim is NOT the sports rim, it’s just a black steel rim.

Thought of ordering one spare sports rim just to replace the black steel rim. So if we have to change spare tire, it’s essentially indistinguishable from the others.

Tucson ix35 uses what type of fuel? 95 or 97?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • There is this plastic squeaky sound coming from the back-right of the car. very noticable if you are sitting in the back seat with your radios off.. just noticed it today, gonna send it to get it checked tomorrow. anyone else mind testing theirs and see if the same thing happens? squeaks even louder when you take corners and i dont think it comes from the suspension.. sounds like its coming from the interior cabin.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • Fuel should be RON95 minimum.

Will look out for the “squeaking” sound when I get mine. If you can hear it from the back, can you also hear that sound from the front?

Hmm… CBU from Kimchi land lack of QC?

  • To say the least, everything the reviews said about the ix35 is true. It is indeed a fantastic car to drive and I’m so pleased with the purchase. I cannot say more. I am very happy. The ride is firm & controlled, yet comfortable. Already hit 150km/h and only clocked 100km brand new :) Gearing is great, smooth & precise. Manual shifting (Tip-tronic) is smooth & obviously a greater feel than left in “D”. Very stable at 150km/h but engine is still not run in yet. Sound system decent enough – no complaints here. No weird noises here (tried air-cond off and slow) & love the Smart Key entry/start/stop.

Overall I’m very pleased, obviously far better than my faithful PV6 which served me a decade.

Manual advise to keep the rev between 2-4k within the first 1,000km milage.

But there are some questions here:

      1) How does the car security alarm works? When armed, I have tried opening it from inside with the smart key in my wife’s hand far from the car but no siren sounded. Is this normal?

      2) Iphone 3GS USB cable does not worked with the USB port. Any idea to solve this? Ironically, my SonyEricsson phone is working perfectly via the USB connection.

      3) How to disable the front airbag incase of child seat being placed in front?

Overall the car is above my expectation from a korean made.

Currently being harrassed by CRVs around…lol! Don’t know whether they are just checking it out or otherwise.

Saw a alot of new Sonata being test driven in Glenmarie today…super sleek and top notch design.

      Cheers…

      • I already went past 5000RPM on my Tucson just clocked <500kms total.

        1. Once car started with Smart Key, when you exit the vehicle with the key and close the door, a caution chime will sound. It will not trigger the alarm. Basically, anyone can drive off with your ix35 if you left the engine running without the Smart Key. But they are unable to restart the vehicle.
        2. Cannot comment on that; haven't tried mine (iPod) yet
        3. Aussie models have "deactivate front passenger air-bag" button. Ours does not :(
        4. Please ensure you manually "lock" your doors with the central door lock mechanism on the drivers side. The unit does not automatically lock the doors when you drive off. This is a standard programming of the ECU logic, similar to Mazda 6 (my friend has a Mazda 6, Jan2010 I just confirmed it). This is a standard ECU logic, and any "auto-lock" function is purely a local customization.
        5. Locking the doors will inhibit rear boot opening. Our Tucson ix35 has a "flaw"; that even with gear engaged at N or D, with engine started, you can open the rear boot unless you physically lock the doors using the Central auto-lock button on the driver's power window panel. The Mazda6 is more "advanced", with engine started, and gear at N or D, the rear boot WILL NOT open if you push the open boot button. Rear boot will only open if you engage gear to P.

yup…there is no central locking ;(

I think Sime took that out since our unit came with the auto dimming with compass rear mirror. That alone cost thousand bucks. But they decided to save a few hundreds with the auto lock!

Another feature which i did not noticed was once the engine is off, the sterring would locked electronically.

          Just clocked in 550km yesterday.

New car consume much higher FC since full tank could only bring me 450km for RM78

But yesterday, my full tank was nearly RM85.

    • Good thing about our “not so popular” Tucson a.k.a. ix35 means that it’s not on the “hot/hit” list amongst thieves. There is just no “demand” for Hyundai/Kia vehicles for the thieves. This confirmed by many people. So while we “suffer” because of lower resale value, at least our vehicles will not “disappear” compared to the famous marques T&H. My friend’s cousin’s Accord (just 6 month old) was stolen in Subang Taipan area in just 3-5 mins using a screwdriver.

As you all know top on the “hit list” Camry, Fortuner, Hilux, Accord, Satria, Myvi (for airbag). Basically it’s for spare parts. No “demand”, no theft.

        • As you know if you took insurance from MUI, if your Hyundai stolen 1st year they replace one free (or 100% insured value if you decide you don’t want a new Tucson) :) Anyway this “guarantee” only for Hyundai, Mazda and Nissan (as far as I know). T&H cannot offer FOC one car if kena stolen, only because top theft = Toyota. Last month approx 100 Hilux got stolen.

Booked mine on 21 April and gotten it last 23 June. Way before any launching nor any cars to look at! It was my first time buying a car straight out from the catalog. But so far no complaint.

But but recently Kid reported squeking sound appear in my tucson…today!
Sounded from the back right seat. Suspecting it’s caused by the contact point between the seats and the plastic wall…appear especially during cornering!

Kid have you solved the issue?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
      • It’s the contact bracket from the right rear seat that “latches” onto the chassis/frame. The sound comes from the leather of the seat rubbing against the frame of the body. Just put the seat flat down & “lock” it back into position. Notice there is some grease there, I think it requires some re-greasing, I notice mine also a bit lacking.

The ride is above average, I’ve sat in my friend’s Audi A5 many times and honestly the ix35 rides very much “European”, and that’s a “good” standard. I’m pretty impressed. Our roads are pretty bad at times, and I don’t blame the “hard” ride sometimes. But I like the body roll, very little. My friend’s CRV had much more body roll.

Already hit 150km/h even though my mileage is <500km. Plan on sending in for 1st service already this week. Made a booking for service appointment already. Gonna use own Idemitsu Semi Synthetic oil for the initial "run-in" period. After that going to go fully synthetic Idemitsu.

  • Just made appointment for first service 1,000km; surprisingly very prompt response & they are able to slot me in this Wed 30th Jun morning. With T&H no way need at least 2-3 weeks in advance booking. Told them I’ll be bringing in my own engine oil (as I mentioned gonna use Idemitsu Semi Syn 10W-40 for the initial run-in period then will go fully synthetic).
My friend who has a Mazda6 (brand new as of Jan this year) commented that his engine a bit rough before 5,000km, after switching engine oil to Shell Helix Ultra Fully Synthetic he felt his 2.5L more power & the roughness gone, after 5,000km. He said the sound should be smoother with out 2.0L since he test drove my Tucson he reported similarities.

  • Anyway checked with HSDM, you can bring your own engine oil. Also Service Manual states we can safely use 10W-30 SM standard oil. Thinner oil has better FC.

      • Well I only pumped in RON95 twice, first time the “computer” said 10.0L/100km. But just yesterday pumped in full tank (2nd time) but I’ve been “whacking” the car 120-150km/h did not push further; according my friend who’s the expert, he says FC will not be accurate initial run in period, after 5,000km you should see a more stable and better FC compared to brand new.

  • Our Tucson (in terms of the Smart Key) is pretty much like my friend’s Mazda 6.

Same as Mazda 6 Smart Key Start/Stop system:
    1. With engine started, IF you exit the car with the Smart Key AND close the door, it will chime to remind you that the engine is still started and the Smart Key is not near. Anyone can still drive the vehicle, but without the Smart Key they will be unable to re-start it should they shut down the engine.
    2. You can shut down the engine when gear in “D” even whilst driving. I tested. Same as my friend’s Mazda 6. Watch out that your kids do not press the Start/Stop button when on the move. This is a “safety” measure should anything “happen” to the driver i.e. heart attack etc, the front passenger can reach over & shut down the vehicle & pull it over to one side.
    3. Do not confuse Auto-Lock function with Central-locking. Even Mazda 6 does NOT have Auto-lock function (which means the vehicle “auto-locks” when moving off > 15km/h). It is a standard programming within the ECU. You can “add” this Auto-lock function for Mazda6 for RM200. Unsure about Tucson. Have to check with SA.
    4. Please ensure you engage Central-locking once all occupants are in the car. Difference between Tucson (and I presume Sonata) compared to Mazda is that Mazda system logic DOES NOT allow the rear boot to be opened unless gear is in “P”. If gear is in “D” or “N” for Mazda, one cannot open the rear boot from outside. This is to prevent “car-jacking”. Our Tucson, you can open the rear boot from outside even if gear in “D” or “N”. Very dangerous if you ask me.

  • 5. Like Mazda 6, system engages steering lock when you shut down the engine. You cannot turn the steering wheel.
    6. Also like Mazda 6, system does not automatically lock the doors when you leave the vehicle. This is factory programming. You have to physically touch the “lock” button on either door handle or depress the “lock” button on the Smart Key. So remember to lock your vehicles when you exit the vehicle. Vehicle does not auto-lock.

  • Recommendation by my expert friend (who happens to be a race car tuner):
Use mineral oil for initial run in period; 1,000km and even 5,000km.
If you wish, go semi syn at 5,000km.
Fully Synthetic oil should NOT be used until the vehicle reaches 10,000km.
Semi syn/Fully syn oils cannot disperse of the metal particles properly which is required during run in period.
And please, “whack” your Tucson after initial run in period 1,000km; i.e. rev to redline 6,000RPM then change gear; 1-2-3-4-5 all gears hold it till redline then shift using +/-
Checked service manual we can use 10W-30 SM grade oil for our climate. Thinner oil gives more “power” and better FC.
I intend to dyno my Tucson after 1,000km. Normally I post details on Motor Trader forums.

  • After sending in the ix35 for 1st service I’m happy to report that the Theta II 2.0 engine now responds smoother & more eager to rev. It is also quieter above 4,000RPM. Idemitsu 10W-30 SM grade engine oil really makes the difference. I feel the power band is slightly increased and the engine just responds better.

Mine would be going in this Sat for 1000km service

Will check on a few things:
      1) Car alarm: Does it equiped with a siren alert?
      2) Squeking sound from car back seat latch
      3) Speed sensing door lock: Cost to install one
      4) Ipod USB incompatible with Iphone 3gs

Shall feedback on the service cost later….ciao

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
      • Yes please do feedback on those items, Kevin.

Esp item no 2. The new chassis is so stiff that everything else in the cabin “groans” because it cannot flex. The plus is that body roll is very minimal & offers unprecedented stability at high speed & cornering. I checked the brackets this morning (for both rear seats) it seems the grease is lacking. In any case, our ix35s are covered under warranty; apparently if all the initial 40 ix35 that were delivered had this squeaking problem, HSDM should have the entire bracket/seat replaced FOC. Small issue IMHO. Am enjoying the taut rear multi link suspension & very controlled ride.

For No 3, Mazda 6 option costs RM200, you have to take your Mazda to one of the “authorized” installers.

Don’t quite like the ipod interface in terms of folder/file selection. I tried with my 1st gen iPod Nano while it works, I cannot physically select the folder I want. It scrolls alphabetically by some cryptic filename which I have yet to ascertain.

            2) Shell Helix Plus HX-7 10W-40 1L RM25.00
            3) Filter Assy RM16.65

          • One thing for sure HSDM charges aren’t that expensive. It’s fair even the price of the engine oil. For my case, I just paid for the Filter Assy and the Washer Drain Plug since I brought my own oil.

Let’s hope the service wait time doesn’t get worse for sure more & more cars will be sold by them esp the ix35/45.

Did you notice the Theta II 2.0 engine smoother after the 1st service? It will only get better especially after the 5,000 km service. I am going only fully synthetic oil (the Shell Helix Plus HX 7 is a good synthetic oil) on the 10,000 km service as recommended by my tuner.

The car is smoother and quieter.

FC has improved from 12.3l/100km to 11.3l/100km, all town driving/jamming

            Car has hit 150km/hr easily…

Temporarily, I have left the driver side back seat latch unlock and the squeeking sound is gone.

Good news, just found out by accident…tht Tucson IX35 car siren does really work/sound!

The car security would kicks-in/armed after 30 seconds when the lock function is being activated.

Subsequently, the car alarm siren would go off should there be any illegal entry/exit from the cabin/hood.

            It utilises the honk siren.

Today’s drive was recorded around 9.5-10.2l/100km & purely city driven.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the ride will only get better after the next service 5,000km.
OK noted on the siren/horn. I was told the newer generation sirens utilize the horn for sound & not a dedicated siren.
Good that you’re enjoying revving it. Hope you get your VKool (or alternative) done soon, it’s quite unbearable without VKool etc.
As for the rear seat (right side) you mean just “unlock” it? So do not “lock” or “latch” it?

I’m afraid our Tuscon is equiped with a modern sort of car security in which is comparable to some car manufacturers from the europe. This technology does not produce any beeping sound when the key is being pressed.

However, I do agree that it comes handy whenever we are to locate our cars in the parking area.

The follow-me-home lighting could assist to some extent in locating your car. Just leave your car headlights on before switching the car off. You would notice the lights would be turn off automatically after 30 seconds.

Subsequently, you could activate the headlights when you press the remote control unlock button.

The lights would guide you to your car, hopefully….lol

Waiting for your feedback with regard to the questions you said you were going to bring to HSDM’s attention:
    1. Are they going to remedy the “squeaking” seat issue?
    2. Is the speed sensing autolock option available to us Tucson owners?
    3. USB port incompatible with 3GS

I could not get the above mentioned addressed as HSDM does not do ore than car servicing on Saturday.

Till now, I have not gotten the time to resend my car in.

On the squeaking sound, I have temporary eliminate it by not latching in the car back seat (Yes, the one right behind of the driver’s seat). You can just leave it as it is, upstanding and it wouldn’t drop down when the car breaks.

I heard it would be about this week from my SA

Just left my car at Hyundai Glenmarie for checking as the back absorber has some squeeking sound and to reaffirm whether the auto lock fucntion could be activated or not.

    Absorber settled with some tightening

Back seat latch and cable need replacement but stocks would need to order. But estimate would be by this week.

Speed sensor auto lock function could be activated via computer system, just tell them at what speed you would want it to lock and Hyundai SC would do for you.

Today’s service was pretty slow. Left my car there since yesterday evening and gotten back the car around 5pm. Action was expedited when I complained to the workshop manager, Mr Victor Devakumar. However, he was very friendly and accommodating to my needs.

      Kevin,

I received your missed call, I was out of town traveling. Will contact you when I’m back in Boleh-land. We have much to talk about :)

Thanks for your feedback, I too will send in my ix35 with regard to what you did. Good to know that the Auto Lock function can be done. Hope it’s not gonna cost us owners much.

As for the suspension tightening, I think it makes sense. My other ride, a pickup truck also requires the rear/front suspension to be tightened say after 6 months.

We shall have the long awaited TT next time both of us are free.

      • I am glad that the Workshop Manager Mr Victor promptly attended to your complaints. I am certain we are not the only ix35 Tucson owners who complained about the “squeaking” seat issue & rear suspension.
Happy to know that these can easily be remedied; as for the spare parts for the seat, hope HSDM will bring them in ASAP.
Overall I’m very pleased with the (new) Tucson. For the price we paid, it’s a great value. My wife loves driving it & so do my kids who enjoy the ride… No vehicle is “perfect”. While I do admit that HSDM or Hyundai Korea for that matter should ensure their QC to provide their customers an unparalleled experience (Hyundai’s motto is Drive Your Way) they should also quickly resolve any issues pertaining to their vehicles, especially new models which have yet to be proven.
I am also glad that HSDM’s servicing prices are reasonable & I hope the major services will not be exorbitant….

According to Hyundai customer service the Tucson 2.4L mostly will be deliver around end August. Seem I have to wait for another month then. I was so upset about the delivery when I received call from customer service. I believe this is trusted information on delivery from customer service not from the SA. SA info tak boleh pakai!

You know why 2.4L Tucson are delay??

Most of the 2.4L Tucson petrol engine have been delivered to USA, over there have big demand and over big qty. In malaysia market with small volumn please wait lah!!!!

I thought when i booked the car in May and was expected to deliver the new Tucson in the month of July; for my birthday present. Now no hope but with further delay.

Last 2 weeks were some new Tucson delivered but all are 2.0L

For those who have got the new car, enjoy your ride & driving and go for makan angin, let your new Tucson explore, go to the places that your Tucson has ever been.

As for my place here in Botanic and Bukit Tinggi Klang, did not spotted any new Tucson; it is still a frest look for the new Tucson.

    Regards.

    • Not surprised on the delay (again). I was one of the first to place a booking for the Tucson way back 1st week of April when no one even knew about the impending launch, only to get the keys 3rd week of June…. You’re absolutely right about the market demand being highest in US of A and Australia hence the markets would be first to receive them, the irony of it all… Totally unequal allocation if you ask me. That’s why I was told many a customer canceled their Tucson for the new i45 Sonata being only a few thousands dearer.

  • This entirely my own personal opinion:
I feel the 2.0 is a good performer, while adequate, not quite a high revving unit.
When the engine was brand it, there was some “resistance” above 4000RPM and somewhat “noisy”, after the first service, things changed a lot.
The engine is even smoother now at lower RPMs and when you hit 4000RPM and above, the sound of the Theta II sweetens up without the harshness! I was pleasantly surprised by that.
The response & noise of the engine will be even better after the 5000km & 10000km service, that I am certain of.
There is not much torque above 5000RPM as the torque curve is optimized from 2500-5000RPM so if you continue flooring the accelerator she will sprint quite effortlessly from standstill, and I’ve so far hit 160km/h, dare not go further for safety reasons & besides there are other vehicles around & already exceed the national speed limit…
The problem is with the gearing. At 120km/h at 6th she’s showing approx 2,400-2,500RPM which IMHO should be lower. I suppose Hyundai designed the 6-speeder to take into account the torque curve. The good thing is there is ample acceleration when you floor the pedal to get up to 150-160km/h. The ix35 is limited to 180-190km/h because of the gearing ratio because by then the tachometer would be way over 5000RPM and the power band quickly diminishes.
My last car the Perdana 2.0V6 while good does not have as good a torque as this 4 cylinder 2.0 Theta II engine, but the V6 is smoother & creamier obviously.

    What I like:
    – striking design
    – good performance of the 2.0; it will only get better after 5,000/10,000km service
    – good brake feel (no brake fade)
    – smooth gear changes
    – excellent tip-tronic gearing; holds gear till red line if you keep the pedal in
    – good steering response
    – very little body roll during cornering
    – good multi-link rear suspension setup
    – very good audio performance for factory setup
    – electro-chromatic mirror
    – good rear seating space
    – adjustable head rest position
    – rear center passenger get’s a shoulder belt, not a lap belt
    – very clear instrumentation display; cool blue which IMHO better than my friend’s Mazda 6’s red color illumination
    – smooth engine starts (from cold start)
    – organ pedal type accelerator (European design, allows you to rest your right foot on it)
    – good tactile response to the buttons (i.e. central lock/display brightness/TRIP/START/audio controls)

    What I don’t like:
    – gear ratios could have been spread better to fully utilize the 6-ratios
    – engine when brand new sounds harsh when pushed (allow it to run in, after which sounds much quieter)
    – no auto cruise
    – no foldable side mirrors
    – no Bluetooth
    – no system logic to prevent rear boot from being opened when gear mode in D or N (irregardless of central locking system)
    – a little inferior quality leather (i.e. no Nappa leather option :)
    – sunroof/moonroof water marks easily (as with all other vehicles with sunroof/moonroof)
    – no LED interior lighting
    – no factory installed UV cut glass (unlike Mazda cars)
    – dashboard materials feel cheap & hard (not soft plastics as on the i30)
    – fender/bumper feels like it’s not 100% secure & feels lightweight (that contributes to the car’s lowish 1,400kg+ kerb weight, a good 150kg lighter than the CRV).
    – my FC (Fuel Consumption) a bit high because I’m revving the engine & often exceed 140km/h (I get 9km/L or so; used to get 10km/L) CRV is worse; only 8km/L
    – no driver’s powered seat (for 2.0 HS)
    – hard plastics used for the door trim (and glove box) easily dirtied by your shoes (you have to clean the black door trim very often)
    – no 3M carpet mats (Mazda provides this as standard)
    – no sports alloy rim for spare tire (again, for the M6, a FULL 18″ sports rim + tire is the spare tire, not a black rim or worse tire “mati”)

If you look at the Sonata interior, it is much more better than Tucson in term of leather seat, air cond, dash board quality and more equipment list.

If you take the Honda accord compare with CRV, then the Accord interior is much more better.

Why all the sedan car offerred more equipments than the SUV?

    • I’m happy just to use a standard 4GB USB Flash drive. The drawback of the new Tucson (and the new Sonata)’s USB port design is if you leave your iPod/iPhone or any other device connected, you’ll have to keep it out of sight when you leave your car unattended otherwise it will attract thefts. A simple cheap 4GB or less USB Flash drive suffices & I just leave it in the USB port permanently. Works well.

I’m still happy with my car.. and glad that i have chosen tucson then CRV.. anybody can teach me how the alarm system works? How to trigger the siren? i left the door open and lock it using the remote.. still no siren.. while my wife’s myvi will make loud noise if i did that.. when is the TT? Hi there, I have shared earlier on the car alarm siren above (one of the hundreds above)

nvm, our car alarm would only activate after a 30 seconds period. Thereafter, you can try opening the car from inside (should you have waited there) or via the car key from the outside, these actions would trigger the honk/siren to go off.

My car FC for the 1st 1k KM recorded around 12.5-13.8L/100km (City Drive)
After service, it drops to 10.3-11.5L/100km (City Drive)
However, it should be lower if you can include in an average of 150km on highway drive for every each full tank that you pump. I hardly see the highway except federal slowway…jamming very so often!

The remote boot function is for unlocking purposes only (only the boot would unlocked) and not an auto release thing ;(

Does your car experience any squeeking sound from the back seat due to the latch lock?

Oh yeah…the “follow me home” lights function can be activated by just leaving your headlights (night time) on while you off the engine. It would stay on for 30 seconds period.

The headlights can be activated again by pressing the remote unlock button and off with the remote lock button. Pretty cool to locate your car in the dark alley, carpack, etc.

However, remember to off the lights during daytime.

its definately queuing in Korea but whether its yours or not, no one can tell….

booking via HQ would speed up a little in delivery

however, there is a global shortage in IX35, hence your delay…I heard the Sonata would be faster in term of getting the car.

but it is a norm nowadays to wait about three-four months for a new car, unlike 10 years back, one would required to wait a long nine months period for a mercedes

        Hi LCW

Good to know that we going to have another Tucson mate.

        Pertaining to your queries:

        1) Squeaking sound – currently being addressed by not latching the back seat (located behind driver side) to the lock while awaiting my next service to have the latch system changed by Hyundai Glenmarie.

        2) Noise from suspension – the root noise was identified coming from the boot. So far, it has been resolved by readjusting the boot cover bushes. Yup, the hood and boot have some adjustable bushes. Initially, the boot bushes were adjusted too low and not providing any support to the boot cover when it closes.

Currently, Sime Darby should expedite the Tucson delivery, otherwise we (A330 and i) would still be lonely.

Do share with us your findings if you have any great information on Tucson ;)

A330 booked way before me, mine was in early April 2010 and the second unit to be released from Glenmarie

Hope you guys would be able to get yours soon ;)

Yeah….Tucson 2.4L has arrived!!! Total no. of 40 units.
Understand form SA, those reverse sensor and car alarm are fix it here in warehouse.

HSDM needs about 2 weeks time for inspections of the new car before it deliver to the showroom.

I believe the allocation of new car should be transparency base on your booking date. Hope to get the new car soonest and in fact i have booked on 1st May, nearly 4 months till now.

  • Good to read that many more ix35 Tucsons will soon be on the road.

A little disappointed with HSDM in the way the delays are being managed. Should have kept its customers abreast on the development & further delays.

Squeaking sound and suspension squeak seems apparent on this batch of ix35. Mine is not exempted. Usually DIY for the seat squeak. For suspension squeak, definitely have to bring back to HSDM.

Suspension squeak apparent whenever you push down the rear with tail-gate open. The sound is very obvious.

      Hi, A330,

It is glad to hear from your feedback. As per the suspension squeak, has HSDM fixed
for you successfully? Please share… so that other Tucson owner can expect what they are looking for when they receive their car. Cheers…

I decided to join the club here as I received my Tucson 2.4 about 3 weeks ago. So far I’m very satisfied and pleased with Tucson especially on the highway. I booked mine on 20th April and got mine on 28th July. That was after I continously bugged the HQ by email. The unit was cancelled by someone who opt for Sonata. So they called me asking me whether I wanted the unit. I said of course…although it was not the colour I’ve chosen before. Now my family is very happy and we hope to live happy ever after.

Welcome to the forum. At this moment there is no Tucson club may be perhaps will be form later on. How is the FC of your car? Can you share?

I even did not have chance to test drive 2.4L Tucson and then placed the order.
There was one earlier but it was crashed by the accident during test drive.

The world is really small…one day later we may end up meeting each in the service center.

  • Shocking the test vehicle 2.4L Tucson crashed during test drive! What a moron of a driver… Of course we don’t know the details…

As for suspension squeak, try this: Open up the tailgate, then push down furiously and release with your hands on the rear section of the boot; i.e. push it down, it the car will spring back up, then push it down again. You will notice there is a squeaking sound. I have not had the time to send it back to HSDM yet, will have to make an appointment to do so.

I also notice my wheel balancing a bit out; the other day hit 160-170km/h and the steering & wheels didn’t quite feel right as compared to the first time. I have my regular tire shop I normally send my other car to, will see how it goes, because HSDM only provides one complimentary wheel balancing during the 1,000km initial service. After I did that service there were no issues & wheels were good at speed.

Congrats to jimel71 upon getting your 2.4L Tucson. To say the least, you certainly got a better spec vehicle with all that extras. But unsure if the 2.4L has Auto Cruise. I know it has foldable side mirrors and of course, the Dual Zone climate control air-conditioning. While hp might be only 10 more than the 2.0L, you will find the torque significantly higher, and your 2.4L will accelerate nicely compared to the 2.0L and also permits you to do overtaking at cruising speed much better than the 2.0L. The 2.4L also has a better final drive ratio hence you should be able to hit a higher top speed than the 2.0L. Enjoy your ride!

It is true and according to SA in Glemarie, they borrowed the Tucson 2.4 to the dealer for test car purpose but unluckily an accident happened during the test drive session. May be test drove by the L driver.

Well, today i called up customer care in Glenmarie and found out that my car was allocated and only will be arrive few days later and she congratulate me for my Tucson allocation and to get the car before hari raya.

When i talked to the customer care, I can feel that they seems received a lot of order and ther are many Tucson lover seems waiting for their new car arrival and even now in long queqe until next year.

As earlier i mentioned the 40 units arrived may be not true, that was mentioned by my SA.

So…. i am really looking forward getting my new car, it may be 2 or 3 weeks away from now.

Today, i have spotted a white color Tucson pass by the Banting and Bukit tinggi interchange……really stylish!!

No, Tucson 2.4 doesn’t have cruise control. FC is around 10L-13L/100km based on the dashboard figure. The power is amazing…much better than my X-Trail 2.5…I can go to 160-170km/hour on the highway without breaking a sweat. So stable.

Well, I did run the engine after my 1st service…on my way to KL and back…the rpm never exceed 4000…I make sure of that…slowly and progressively…
One thing I found about Hyundai…their driver’s door can’t properly shut after you close it..you’ve to slam it…not so hard though…it will not close properly if you casually and lightly push it…the same thing happen on my previous Matrix..
I can’t blame myself for really pushing this car…it has so much power underneath its engine couple that to the superb and silky smooth transmission..you get a rocket jet on the road…I’m afraid one day I ‘kena saman ekorlah’…
My wife managed to get 8.8L/100km…that’s impressive…
My 1st servive they charged me RM 15.50 for the oil filter and rubber stopper…no labour charge..I brought my own engine oil…

The door lock is a small problem, just loosen the bracket where the door clamp on, adjust it a bit towards the door direction and tighten it again. I had that with my matrix years ago when I first got it.

  • New engine technologies do require run in. However even if you “accidentally” floor the accelerator when you car is new i.e. not yet done 1st service, and hit >4000RPM you won’t necessarily damage the engine. Run in period is to clean the engine of deposits, as the seals and pistons are rather “tight”, hence they need to loosen up. The initial engine oil’s purpose is to clean away the contaminants & metal deposits from the run in period, hence it is important to ensure a timely first service to replace the engine oil & filter.

Even while my Tucson was 140km/h, but kept the revs < 4000RPM. After 1000km, (now my Tucson is <4000km) I occasionally rev till red line 6,000RPM every now & then.

Acceleration is good for our Tucson, but torque inadequate IMHO, compared to my other vehicle which is a diesel (as you know diesels have prodigious amounts of torque).

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • So far hit 170km/h and no more road to push the Tucson further, already breaking the speed limit. The 2.4L will do much better because it has much more torque than the 2.0L which I find sorely lacking.

Initial acceleration from start is perceived good only because of the gearing, our Tucson has a very highish 1st gear ratio. Obviously first gear is pretty useless and the car has to shift to 2nd very quickly because of the ratio.

I’ve been a follower of the car since sometime in april/may.
like the look, the spec and everything in between.

Went for 2nd test drive yesterday to make final decision and place down payment. however, the test drive just confirmed main issue that keep me getting commited… that is the engine is rather rough… from pick up, accellaration until full speed.
It sort of rather bad vibraiton and poor insulation/dampening even at low speed and low rpm (2k+). Any of the owner keen to share same opinion? i was hoping for some better NVH.

may be just the test car? will go for another test drive at another place, but that would probably yeild same result.

  • Unme, firstly thank you for the kind comments. No doubt, you can attest to my interest in the ix35 Tucson since it was launched last year in the US of A.
I’ll try my best to answer your Q as accurately as possible. However please bear in mind that a lot of it is my own personal opinion & preference. At the end, it’s your money and your decision & your preference. I cannot tell you that A is better than B etc and this forum is not to compare T&H (Toyota/Honta) vs H&K (Hyundai/Kia).
I’ve seen Blue Ice in real life & I think it’s a cool color. However, reading your post makes me a little disappointed with HSDM because obviously they have too many orders to handle each one appropriately, hence you were left without much of an option when told Blue Ice wasn’t available.
Personally I think any color looks great on the ix35. Black and White in particular. Only because the White contrasts nicely with the black skirt linings and Black it self makes the ix35 looks stealthy because the skirts are also black so it blends in very nicely.
My Tucson is Silver. I went Silver because I’m the occasional lazy type of person who does not bother to wash my car every alternate day. Mind you, all colors irregardless, do get dirty, it is just that Silver is particularly good in “hiding” the grime & dirt. White & Black doesn’t do as well a job as Silver here. More often, you’d have to wash your White & Black more often. Black is also more prone to swirl marks. Be mindful of that.
    Kevin’s is White.
The first step in maintaining a good showroom condition vehicle is wash your car with plain water most of the time. Use a low mild car shampoo which does not “erase” off the clear coat only when the dirt & grime is too heavy & soiled to the paintwork.
I recommend Turtle Wax’s F21 Car Wash formula (1.89L) available from Carrefour.
Next is to coat the clear coat/factory paintwork with a suitable car polish. I use Turtle Wax’s F21 Car Polish, which actually enhances & prevents fading on new finishes.
I’m not promoting Turtle Wax per se, but I find their products good value & it has new tech to boot, namely using Nanotechnology.
Once you’ve put in the F21 Car Polish, it seals in the layer & when you move your fingers through the uncoated parts of your paintwork vs the coated parts, you will notice the difference.
Bottom line, all finishes/paintwork needs care & protection from our sun’s harmful UV rays. Also I recommend Auto Glym’s Extra Gloss Protection (similar to Turtle Wax’s F21 Car Polish Nano Tech formula) and Auto Glym’s Leather Care Cream for your leather interior (though not so much applicable for the Tucson because it’s not the high grade Nappa leather, I have another car which I use the Auto Gylm on).

  • I noticed as of late, the initial wheel alignment done isn’t that great (I sent to HSDM Glenmarie), when I push the Tucson above 140km/h there is noticeable vibration. Knowing that only the initial alignment is free, subsequent wheel alignments aren’t, so I’m planning to send my Tucson in to my regular tire shop at Bandar Sunway. Also plan to get rid of the air inside the 4 tires & fill them up with Nitrogen.
Nitrogen is an inert gas, and larger at the molecular level than oxygen, so will slow down the gases’ escape, hence maintaining a better constant tire pressure. Also tires typically filled with Nitrogen heats up less by approx 5C than regularly filled tires. Hence reducing the chance of explosion due overheating. Obviously that is extremely remote in occurring, but a fact nonetheless.
Also our stock Tucson’s brake pads are not fantastic. They exhibit some brake fade (with continuous braking & heat) and emit lots of brake dust. I’ve used Bendix brake pads on my other vehicles and the brake feel is vastly improved & much less brake dust.
I use Turtle Wax’s F21 Foaming Wheel Cleaner (with Nano Tech formula) to rid my Tucson’s rims of the brake dust & dirt. Just spray it on, hose it off and of course, you’ll need to get your hands dirty with a piece of cloth to navigate through the grooves of the 17″ rims which I find it a chore, the 17″ rims while stylish, isn’t that great for fingers to clean!

As for me…a simple big toilet brush is doing me a good job in getting the 17″ rims clean ;)

Have been washing the car twice weekly and it has been a good work out for me.

During my last drive to Penang, I did not notice any vibration with the car even with 150km/hr

  • eslord,
As with any new, not-run-in engine, it is expected to be rough. As I posted earlier, you do not expect to feel much power above 4000RPM and you obviously feel the roughness set in above 4000RPM with increased NVH, instead of decreased NVM.
I assure you once you have sent in your vehicle for the first service, you will notice improvement in the engine’s response & there will definitely be an increase in power & pickup. I will not go into the technical details of why so. Suffice to say, that the initial mineral oil used in new engines is used to flush out metal contaminants because the seals are tight, factory default.
HSDM uses Shell Helix HX7 which is a Semi Synthetic oil formula for the first service. Good choice, as one should not go Full Synthetic until reaching 10,000 km.
I appreciate HSDM’s policy in allowing owners to bring in their own engine oil. Personally I use Idemitsu Extreme ECO 10W-30 for my first service. That is a mineral based oil. Personally I’ve used Idemitsu for other applications which are certainly more demanding (turbo-charging) & I find it worth the money spent & certainly made a difference.
There is a significant difference in engine oil brands. That I can confirm 100%, not only as a driver/user but also from one of my good friends who happens to be a car tuner & an engineer by training.
For my next 5000km service, I will go Idemitsu Extreme Touring Semi Syn 10W-40. Only when my Tucson reaches 10,000km, I intend to fill her up with Idemitsu Extreme ECO Fully Synthetic 5W-30.

  • The discussion on engine run in does not apply to (most) continental cars. Only Japanese & Korean cars require a run in period. I do not know about other makes like Chevrolet & Ssangyong but being Korean obviously they would adhere to the same principals.
Continental cars (most of them) are already run in. Say you bought an Audi A5 or BMW 525i, you do not need to run them in. Straight from the factory, after initial warm up period, you can literally rev the engine to red line even though your odometer shows <100km!
In fact after purchasing (most) Audis or BMWs or Mercedes, the SA will tell you only to bring it back for the first service after 20,000km or 1 year. They will tell you not to come back (for service) unless an accident etc until a year's time!

  • eslord,
There is no significant “bad vibration, poor dampening/insulation” as you described from your test drive, as far as my Tucson is concerned. While NVM isn’t that fantastic, I attribute road noise due to the Kumho Solus tires.
I’d rate engine noise & roughness 6/10 for the Tucson. Yes admittedly my 6A12 10-year old PerdanaV6 fares better, I’d give the PV6 7/10. However as I said, you’ll notice a marked improvement in reduction of noise & engine power once you have sent in your Tucson for the mandatory first service.
It should get even better after the 5,000km service, unless inferior engine oil is used (which should not be the case anyway, if you stick to HSDM’s supplied Shell Helix HX7). Keep the Fully Synthetic lubrication until the 3rd service for best possible engine run in.
Acceleration I’d rate 8/10 on the Tucson, helped a lot by the silky smooth 6-forward gear ratios. Keep the accelerator depressed and she shifts nicely at redline each time till reaching 120-140km/h.
Handling I’d rate 8/10 particularly good for a mid-sized SUV, better than the ubiquitous CRV. However, I understand HSDM’s fully booked for Europe’s top selling Tucson till next year, we will obviously see more ix35s on the road, maybe even surpassing the CRV. I hope the theft rate will not follow suit accordingly…
The rear multi-link suspension has the niggling defect; an intrusive mild noise protruding into the serene cabin atmosphere, it is pronounced when you negotiate relatively small bumps at slow speed.
I have yet to send in my Tucson for rectification at HSDM.

      Tq for sharing.
I’ve check the millage of the test drive unit, around 6000KM. could it be that i went through lot of start stop, and rough revving by the customer? Probably yes, but then this would be a good “acid test” giving me the view how would the car perform with the regular owner after 3 or 5 years.

i myself also drive a PV6. First of all, we should not compare with the purring of the V6 which in my mind is sort of music to my ear. Also the poor insulation by proton, is no means to compare with.

Yes, that rating of 6/10 is for Tucson is fair, and i agree of it. Probably i find it difficult to find a smooth spot to get the car moving, as not used to it. But this should not the case as one would expect the new Theta 2 engine c/w 6X GB which they boost about.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
      • eslord,
Actually the Theta II engine revs quite willingly, and because of the inherent advancement in technology resulting in the Theta II 2.0 much lighter than our 6A12, I do like the standing start of the Tucson compared to that of my previous ride the PV6. Of course the highish 1st gear ratio helps it tremendously, and it’s quite easy to get the 1485kg moving.
IMHO I think comparing this 2010 Tucson to our 10 year old PerdanaV6 is a valid statement. As I’ve mentioned before, factor in the inflation of 4% PA (which IMHO is way below the actual inflation rate) for a PV6 costing RM100k back in 2000, and it’s totally justifiable to make an apples to apples comparison between the two vehicles.
The PV6 is crippled by a poor ratio 4-speeder gearbox. The 6A12 while superb and I could not agree more, smooth & purr-fect, is typical of 6 cylinder engines. As for the insulation of the PV6 which could have been better, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Fast forward to 2010, and IMHO Hyundai engineers probably did not pay much attention to the sounding of the Theta II. Also it could be due to poor firewall insulation between the engine compartment & the “cockpit” a.k.a. driver’s seat.
I own a pickup truck, and I honestly love the sound of the turbo spooling up because of the “lousy” sound insulation of the firewall area. I couldn’t do without the turbine sound of the turbocharger :)
I give credit to Hyundai’s engineers with regard to properly matching the 6-speeder auto box. It fits my driving style very nicely, and rarely finds a poor gear ratio. I like it because it allows the driver to red-line on every shift up to 5th whenever you floor the accelerator. Kudos to that.
I’d up the rating of the Theta II to 7/10 after the first service. I kid you not. There is a marked improvement after the engine oil change. That I can attest. I am certain Kevin would agree with me on that statement too.
Perhaps the vehicle you test drove hasn’t been given a proper service, or the testers have literally trashed the vehicle up…
I wouldn’t attribute the feeling you felt due to “rough revving by the customer”, only a poorly maintained test vehicle.
You really cannot trash the engine too much unless you’re revving in Sepang racing track. It’s about regular & pro-active maintenance.

    • Thanks, Kevin.
Honestly I have no idea about the car club thingy… Perhaps if any Tucson owners wanna test out their Tucson on Sepang’s track we could meet up for a track day @ Sepang 31 Oct. Couple of my Mazda friends are gathering that day @ Sepang. I don’t think they’d disagree with Korean makes using the track too :)

        A330

        31 Oct, I ll be down under…riding roos ;)

Would glad to join but perhaps at other times.

I am just wordering how many forumers here have actually gotten their cars? If the numbers more than 10 then maybe we shall meet up during TT to share car experience. service, repair & other feedback.

Currently, there is an increase in IX35 in Subang/USJ areas, there are around four units now from my observation lately.

Is there other car forum which we could chat constructively as this thread is getting way too long? I used to like motortrader but the current layout really a nuisance to use.

  • Arrgghh… have called the HQ this morning. Stil ding dong. My car yet being released by customs. Why take so long? Just fill up the relevant form, pay the duty and release it. That process should take 1 day. Unless the shipment discharged not followed the declaration made @ the port of loading (KOR).
I dunno whether I can park my tucson @ my garage this next week or after raya. panasnyeeeeeee hati :(

May we know when you book your Tucson? What spec? Color?

      Thanks a lot…

      • Hi lcw8067,

I’ve placed a booking 9/5/2010 for the blue ice, 2.0 HS. However, not as promised earlier (sweet tongue- supposed to receive by July 2010), I have been allocated with the silver color from this shipment. If I didn’t accept it, it will affect my interest rate and my plate number registration deadline. So here it’s look like I as a buyer have not choice :(
How about u? Waiting for it as well? when did you place your booking?

          Hi Unme,

Too bad… I booked mine on 6/6/10; so is about 1 month after yours. Same spec & same color like yours.

Until now no news yet from SA. Called him, he just says no cars & ask me to wait. However, my SA did asked me if ice blue not available, what other colors I can accept. I told him my other choices, but not silver.

          • hi lcw8067,

yup.it seems that u have to wait more longer. Me @ first also have been asked for other color as an option if my choice r not available.I’ve made other choices as well not including silver. But @ the end I will only get the silver one. Hope u manage to get ur spec n color

    • Well that’s not unexpected. As mentioned, I waited more than 2months (placed order 1st week April, received car end of June). I do believe HSDM is already up to their neck trying to release as many Tucsons and the new i45 Sonata as possible. Many factors may be at work here to delay it further, some of which may remain unknown to us.

I booked mine on 15 May 2010 and just received a call from the SA last Friday saying that the car is expected to arrive on 13 Sept 2010. So i’ve waited for 4 months! :)

Understand your desperation to balik kampung safely in it!

There is a week more to go…I hope you can get it before that ;)

Mine took 3 days to go through all the custom check & release process.

I reckon ice blue would be a rare colour here since I have yet to see one on the road yet, good choice.

Till then Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

I dun understand why almost 3 weeks from 15 aug 2010 to today, d clearnce process still yet to be done. Thus, plus another processes involving puspakom n jpj registration, it seems I will only get my car 2 week after raya. :( :,(

  • Decided to send in my Tucson for a complete wheel alignment/wheel balancing and camber adjustment.
Was unimpressed with the so called “free” alignment by HSDM on the first service. Noticed my Tucson pulling to the left on a straight road, hence eating into the tires unevenly, and vibration above 120-140 km/h.
Did the above at KIN Alignment Services at Bandar Sunway. He’s not cheap. Paid over RM200 for the whole lot. Had major issues with the alignment & camber hence the “pull left” thingy and had a front camber screw replaced/inserted.
Also filled her up with N2, set at 34 psi.
Immediately noticed very nice feel now, she doesn’t pull to the left & no vibration at all! I know KIN Alignment is expensive (about 50% higher than others) but I rather pay for something that works & good service. N2 as all. Good stuff.

  • My FC not pretty, 12-13L/100km. I’m pretty foot heavy on the Tucson, so that’s expected. I love the nicely spaced gear ratios of the ix35. Now I understand the logic behind the whole Tucson’s 6-speed auto development. Spoke to my tuner about it, he agrees.
I’d rate the Tucson’s 6-speed auto box 8/10 (same goes to the Sonata i45 and the new KIA Sportage which utilizes the same gear box, perhaps maybe different final gear ratio).
The 6-speeder rarely misses a kickdown and it’s responsive pretty quick for a auto box. Good job, Hyundai.
Acceleration is brisk due to the highish first gear ratio, and the ratios are well spaced to keep the Theta II in optimum torque range.
She also eagerly revs to redline which I like and I do say the sound is sweeter now (after first service). My Tucson is coming to 4,500km and I hope after the 2nd service it will be even sweeter.
Theta II 2.0L rating now 7/10.
After wheel alignment/balancing and adjusting the camber, handling up to 8/10. She now corners beautifully.
Need to fully test it in Sepang though :)
Just got a couple of Lucas Octane Booster (Racing Formula) from my tuner’s shop, will try that, as I’m very unimpressed with our RON95. I may end up going RON97 but not without further tests on my tuner’s soon & upcoming new Dyno Dynamics 4WD Dynamo-meter.
Lucas Octane Booster label back reads “Contains specific upper cylinder lubricants that insure easier piston travel & valve seat protection. Also ensures maximum life & performance from pumps, injectors & carburetors. Eliminates spark knocks, pinging & dieseling. Promotes clean fuel burn for fewer emissions and more MPG. Safe for turbos, oxygen sensors & catalytic converters. A Genuine performance enhancer. Suitable for use in fuel injected, carbureted, throttle body & rotary engines.”

      My current FC records:

      1) Pure city driving:11.8-12.5km/l
      2) City + Highway (<100km): 11.2km/l
      3) City + Highway (<300km): 10.2km/l

I find hit hard not to be heavy footed on the Tucson since the car is superb & powerful. At 100km/h it still feels like driving at 70-80km/h.

Better look out for the speed traps with this car…. ;)

Facebook for Hyundai Malaysia got a guy complaining that his Tucson of 1 month only sudah kena macam macam problem laaa. Exhaust bocor & steering shaking or vibrating. Have to wait 3 months for spare part.

This make me also takut about the reliability of Hyundai Cars. Any of the current new Tucson owners facing such problems?

So far, mine is in perfect condition.

However, I deem the issues mentioned above would be easily addressed as there are not serious.

On the spare part, perhaps 3 months are considered as too long of a waiting period. We can’t allow Hyundai to make us wait on this eventhough the car has just being launched.

      Appreciate your input.

Just gotten my car back at 12 noon just now after sending it in for 5k km service. Did not wait long for the car, sent in around 8.30am.

As per A330 advice, I still opted for a semi synthetic engine oil until it hits 10k km then only i would swap to a fully synthetic one.

Today cost of service is RM144.96 (5L Shell Helix Plus HX-7 RM128, Oil Filter RM14.80 & Washer drain plug RM2.16). Some discount was given due to Raya service promotion.

However, did not get them to repair the squeaking sound since the noise mysteriously dissapear three days ago ;). I shall wait till it comes back then only it will go in for repair…on the seat lock/latch ;)

After 5k km service, the car is remarkably quiet and acceleration is smoother with noticeable better pick up than previously. To complement the improvement, I ve pumped in a full tank of Vpower petrol…

Lastly, there is a sonata running about lately on the highway…was wondering who was the lucky chap ;)

  • Thanks for the feedback, Kevin. Am wondering why HSDM charged you for 5L engine oil when our manual says the 2.0 only requires 4.1L; I brought 2x4L of my own oil last time (first service) and they only used 4L. Later I checked the dip stick level & it’s sufficient. Sufficient till yesterday when I checked.

Anyway money well spent on my part for the alignment & camber. No more vibration above 110km/h. No more pull left on a straight road too. Also our speedo over-reads by approx 5 km/h, i.e. when it shows 100km/h, you’re actually doing approx 95. Garmin GPS says so. I’ve crossed checked with my other vehicle & I don’t think the Garmin is wrong.

My odometer’s approaching 4800km, plan to send in my car for the 5000km service soon but will have to wait till after the festivities.

I will go with you with the Vpower. Somehow I don’t trust the RON95 rating. After putting in the Lucas Octane Booster, there is a difference felt above 5000RPM (high RPMs) you feel like the engine is more powerful.

Saw the new i45 Sonata in PJ the other day SS3, very nice… :)

There was a quarter balance of the additional 1L engine oil used. The same quantity was used too during my 1st service. Frankly, I did not cross-check it with our manual. But would appreciate your help to check that out further with them when you send in yours for 2nd service ;)

However, my car engine still experiencing minor vibration during cold start every morning. Would it be the engine being new or the engine oil or other factors?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Vibration on cold start normally has nothing to do with the engine being new. Anyway yours already sent for 2nd service, so you can rule out the new engine thingy.
Engine oil could affect it somewhat, generally thicker oils may cause that, however Shell Helix HX7 that HSDM supplies isn’t out of compliance. In any case, thicker engine oils will only cause that for vehicles in colder climates.
As for my Tucson so far I’ve not encountered that after the first service. Higher than normal idle RPM is normal for a cold engine, afterwhich it will stabilize to approx 800RPM.

On highway manage to get 8.7l/100km fuel consumption feel very good during tat time, normal drive get 11.7l/100km.
Fuel consumption are slowly improving, full tank manage to get at least 570km using ron97. the rest all are in very good condition onli the problem is the rear latch sound.
Oh n my current mileage is 2.6km using normal semi oil recommend by hyundai sc.

  • Ok guys some updates:
Sent in my Tucson for 2nd service 5,000kms. Pretty prompt at HSDM, In 0900, Out 1100 sharp.
WiFi down, what a disappointment. Hope our Tucsons last longer than the dropped WiFi :) Just kidding, I have confidence in Korean cars this time round, being my first Korean vehicle, anyway.
Engine Oil used: Idemitsu 10W-30 ECO Mineral. Will only go fully synthetic at 10,000km. Explained above.
Decided to add some options; went for Blue Chem Oil System Cleaner RM45 and Oil System Care RM45 = total RM90. You will see the Blue Chem products on display at the service counter when you send in your ix35.
Noticed immediate improvement in engine smoothness & response. Also felt like powerband improvement >4500RPM.
They car cash my Tucson & cleaned the interior, though I didn’t opt for that. Unfortunately the dash area was “semi-cleaned” as you notice some clean spots & some not cleaned.
I finished the work with Turtle Wax’s F21 Super Protectant for the interior.
Made appointment next week to sort out the rear noise; apparently the service agent knew about it; common occurance; and said it was to do with the tailgate. However, as per Kevin’s advice, I will closely monitor those guys when they “attempt” to fix the tailgate, or so they claim.
I read some US forums, apparently this ix35 suffers from this issue; a niggling noise from the rear; and pronounced when going slow over undulating surfaces. We are not the only ones facing this problem. It’s a global issue affecting virtually ALL ix35 Tucsons.
Well, unsure if you guys feel it’s “bad” news for Hyundai. But the wait list of now 6 months or greater certainly does not put a dent to their sales for sure…

informative and useful. This forum is also one of the most active forum on
Tucson, other than the one in AW.

Just keep on updating the rest on the issues on Tucson, especially:

    a) the rear door latch rattling noise: how to solve it & which SC to solve it (so that
outstation forummer know which SC is reachable or not)

    b) Engine vibration during morning cold start. Any body get this one sorted out?

    c) Air cond not cold enough. Is it true? Anybody facing this problem?

Please keep up with the good work.

    Cheers…

No one is sifu here…i was wishing for one too as he/she could atleast provide useful tips and ways to address some of our issues.

I believe similar to A330, we hope the feedbacks that we have contributed can be useful to others as much as we would keen to hear from the rest.

I agree with you, that there is not many active forums relating to this car since it is still considered new to our region despite Spore having it for about a year now. However, you are welcome to search the Facebook site for a page dedicated to Hyundai IX35 Malaysia.

      Pertaining to your queries:
      a) My car did not encounter any rattling noise from the rear door latch except from the one cause by the rear seat buckle/latch that provides you a 60:40 fold down option. I reckon HSDM has been highlighted with this issue since most IX35 owners are experiencing it. However, we would like to hear more on this issue from you. One may not know when it will affect our cars in the future.

      b) Engine cold start was quite evident before my 5000km service. After that service, the issue is less obvious but not entirely resolved yet. I suspect it has been caused by spraying high water pressure during the cleaning of the front grille and the aircon condenser part. I think the water may have sipped into the airvent of the air filter which is also located above the aircon condenser. So be cautious while spraying water there. Furthermore, every morning i have noticed tiny droplets of water on the ground where the exhaust is located above. Nonetheless, I have stopped spraying high pressure water into the condenser part and so far no more obvious cold start in the morning.

      c) So far, the aircon has been kind to me during hot days despite the fact that my car is not tinted yet. However, I would need to fully blast out to the max on the aircon. The down side is that all IX35 is not being equiped with IR filter glasses. This explain why the car can be very hot especially mid day sun. Something interesting to share if you have not found out yet that our IX35 has a double blower underneat the front seats which could act as a rear blower :)

Currently, I am planning to send my car in for tinting this Saturday after having driven it for about 3 months now. I shall be opting for 3M Crystalline range. Current IX35 glasses are slightly tinted as stock. The VLT is around 82-83%. 3M is having Raya deal now with discount up to RM500/car.

      Ciao…

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • Kevin,
Try removing your air filter to have a look, if it’s wet or dirty. I will open up mine & check. Perhaps if you have doubts of your stock air-filter’s reliability due to the fact that it had water ingested, replacing it might not be a bad idea.
I will check with my tuner if a high-flow performance K&N Air Filter is available for our ix35.
As for 3M Crystalline 70 series, it would be my choice too, other than VKool Elite. Don’t forget that our Smart Tag does not work with Original 3M C-70.
No air-cond issues, but since our 2.0LM only comes with a mediocre manual air-cond system, I notice setting the dial (thermostat) 3 notches from the left-most (left-most indicates coldest), the cabin temp is pleasantly comfortable, but coolness goes down. Personally, I find setting 2 notches above max cold to be ideal. Anything higher, and it’s not cold air (4-notches above max cold) you will feel like it’s ambient air.
I had a chance to sit in the rear (didn’t do much rear bench seating as of late; I prefer to drive, if you know what I mean), noticed it’s not that comfortable for rear passengers when over undulating/bumpy roads. My impression is the suspension is tuned to be above the average ride, hence it’s a little stiffer than other sedan cars. Also the ix35 uses a more complicated rear multi-link setup; Even the new Peugeot 3008 Crossover uses the simpler & less effective Torsion Beam (like the KIA Forte); the KIA Sportage uses the same multi-link as our Tucson, but KIA says the Sportage is tuned differently (unsure in what area).
As for engine cold start, it was gone entirely after I did the first service. Alternatively you could try a thinner oil; like the Idemitsu 10W-30 Eco; there is a Fully Synthetic variant which I will try at 10,000km, the Idemitsu 10W-30 EXTREME ECO Fully Synthetic; prior to that the lowest viscosity grade for Fully Synthetic from Idemitsu was 10W-40.
Engines of today are more than adept & designed to use 10W-30 oil, and lowering the viscosity will reduce fuel consumption to a certain degree, and provide better cold engine start, where wear & tear is often the highest; during engine start/stop, as lower viscosity oil flows easier.
Perhaps that’s the reason I don’t experience it after my first service.

Nice meeting up with you dude…

Shall update you on the 3M Crystalline 70 peformance as there was not much sun after my tinting is completed.

However, would need to resend in my car since the workmanship is questionable but i ll give him the benefit of a doubt since it is normal to have many bubbles during the initial installation process. Will see how after a week or two (finger crossed;).

  • The rear multi-link setup isn’t that comfortable for rear passengers, IMHO. And I do believe it’s because it’s tuned slightly stiffer for better handling. Do experience for yourself sitting at the rear when you test drive the Tucson. Of course, majority of our roads are to blame, when it’s nice & smooth (like on NKVE) it’s very nice to sit behind. But I prefer to sit in front driving it…
And for those of you with young families, the younger children will have a hard time “looking out” because of the steeply raked door-line sloping upwards to the rear, impeding view. My kids are always “standing” on the rear seat (with seat belts fastened, of course) to get a view outside… Sigh… Perhaps I should put back the child car seats (for ages 5-9) (which I gave away)…

  • Just opened up my air filter. I would say 90% clean after 5700km of use. I like the “cold” air intake design of the Tucson’s air filter. Also ensures less contaminants gets in the way.

For those of you who like Bling, check out www.mancando.com they sell accessories for our Tucson; tons of it, e.g. LED lights etc.

Also tire recommendation, in 2 years time when you decide to upgrade your tires, it would be easiest to go for 235 tires, as 225/60/R17 are hard to find & expensive, IMHO.

I shall be heading down to Spore beginning of next year…hopefully will get some of the gadgets around, let me know if you need them too ;)

I have checked the air filter and it was slightly on the dirty side despite having it service two weeks.

  • As for air-cond not cold issues, I don’t find that an issue with my Tucson. While the air-cond is pretty good for the front, it can’t be said of the rear passengers. You’ll need at least speed 2 for the rear passengers to be comfortable; by which if you don’t defect the air cond louvers on the drivers side “high” enough, you’ll end up with “cold” fingers/hands :)

      • I won’t be updating this page anymore. For all future & current Tucson owners, please log on to the FB page Kevin created.

I will slowly be migrating the info I posted here to FB.

It’s far easier to instantly post updates & share pictures which would otherwise be pretty difficult using this method.

Thanks to Paul anyway for the support given on this page.

Huge thanks to A330 for contributing so many interesting and relevant articals pertaining to our car.

Yeah, would agree with him that via FB, our feedback, photos, discussions, etc could be managed in a more orderly and constructively manner.

Hereby, let’s extend our gratitude to Mr Paul for hosting this thread for so long…bravo bro :)

  • Took the Tucson up to Janda Baik (Karak Highway) today, excellent ride for a SUV, but as I commented, not good for rear passengers. For the younger generation, i.e. the kids, esp below 9 years old, do bring along comfortable pillows for them to use as “risers” to allow them to have a better view outside, also serves as a “pillow” for then they doze off at the mid arm rest in between drives.

Handled the curvy Karak highway well, but I found the D-mode gear didn’t quite work for me because she doesn’t automatically downshift when going downhill or negotiating corners etc. Best is to use manual and I found gear 3-4 best when going thru the 5-9km stretch towards Janda Baik.

Thought Kevin helped me sort out the squeaky tailgate but the sound resurfaced… Sigh… Will try to trouble shoot further, maybe I might just send in the car to HSDM.

Check your power steering oil level; mine was filled to the brim! Told HSDM to remove some during the 1st service (to correspond with the Cold Max/Hot Max levels); noticed Kevin’s Tucson also same; filled to the max.

Also check your Tucson’s tire pressure when you get it new; mine was crazy 44+psi. I wasn’t too pleased when I found out…

    Hey, IX35 owners…

Need more in depth info, tips, feedback, news, links, videos, photos, etc concerning your beloved car…

Kindly join us @ Facebook. Just utilise the FB seach engine and look for Hyundai IX35 (Malaysia) page.

It is still new page (founded 4 Sept 10) and would appreciate your kind feedback if any on how to make it even more exciting and fun.

Currently, it is being moderated by myself and A330

    Cheers ;)

        wahaha…

I was responsible for rolling the snowball…

but the huge avalanche later was mainly contributed by A330 himself.
