Nissan returns to the Le Mans game, as engine provider

Nissan has announced that it has entered into an exclusive two-year official partnership with Signature Racing to provide the latter its Nismo-tuned VK45V8 engines for Signature’s racecar competing in the LMP2 class of the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC).

It heralds the brand’s return to racing under the Le Mans banner, brought about by Nissan’s desire to promote its engines to a much larger global audience.

The team, which will be known as Signatech Nissan, is aiming high for the inaugural season, looking to both finish at Le Mans 24 Hours and secure a podium place at the end of the year-long global championships.

Although the official race car livery and full driver line-up for the new season will be announced over the coming weeks, F3 star Franck Mailleux has been confirmed for the ILMC and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The ILMC season gets underway on March 19 at Sebring in the US.

Wonderful, as expected the manufacturers are attracted to Le Mans. The concept is more relevant to their products and a value platform they can use for their marketing.

Good to see Nissan in as Honda is already in under the Acura bagde, powering a race car spearheaded by the same tech head in Virgin Racing, Nick Wirth. Same all CFD approach

If it’s not a diesel, they are going to be at a disadvantage, diesels can run longer

    • In that case, Renault should be in together with Nissan.

LM P2 not that critical like LM P1 where big name fighting for the best….

LM P2 is more like production car race where the engine relate to some street model….instead of fully prototype engine on LM P1

Not really. You’re referring to LM GT class. LMP2 is similar to LMP1 but with less power and slightly less cost. It is still a carbon prototype monocoque that does not resemble any production vehicle
