Toyota FT-86 II at Geneva – production launch in 2012!

This is the latest design update for the Toyota FT-86 Concept called the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, and it must be quite ready for production as Toyota have announced that the production car will be launched in 2012.

Toyota FT-86 II at Geneva – production launch in 2012!

The FT-86 II Concept measures 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,270mm tall with a 2,570mm wheelbase. It’s got a shorter wheelbase and length than the Mazda RX-8 but it’s a wee bit wider and lower.

Power comes from a boxer engine mated to a lightweight 6-speed manual gearbox, and that’s about all that Toyota reveals on what’s in the engine bay at the moment – no power figures or specs for now. It does power the rear wheels though, so with the right kind of power to weight ratio this could be one fun car to drive.

The new design looks too rounded. Some accents from Lexus CT200h 5 ?

If I’m the CEO of Toyota,I think it would be more profitable to make this a Lexus instead. The brand name of Toyota no longer brings the term,”sporty” to mind.At least Lexus got the luxurious feel. And can even market ths as a lil bro for Lexus LFA.In fact, they even look rather alike!

This would fall under the category of junior sports car league, where the Celica, Silvia, Integra, Prelude, FTO and MX-3 once played a huge part in.

This was not meantt to be a luxury and comfy cruiser, it’s meant to be a sports car.

Hence, i don’t think they’ll badge this as a Lexus.

Junior sports car??From the look of it,I’d say this is more in line with 370Z.

If dump in subaru 2.5 turbo engine, should be able to get ~4.5s to hit 100km/h.
Doesn’t look like super car that can hit 300km/h, not much of aerodynamic element.

Anyway, should be a very practical and fun junior sports car.
