Nissan Elgrand 3.5 V6 – ETCM officially launches the E52

Nissan Elgrand 3.5 V6 – ETCM officially launches the E52

If the introduction of the third-generation Nissan Elgrand you’re about to read sounds rather familiar, well, we’ve written about it before – the vehicle was spotted by Danny at the Renault Clio RS 200 Cup launch back in February, though at that point the seven-seater MPV hadn’t made its “official” debut.

It has now. Edaran Tan Chong Motor has launched the E52 Elgrand, and everything is pretty much the same as that reported earlier – the Highway Star version wears a VQ35DE 3.5 litre V6 engine offering 280 PS at 6,400 rpm and 344 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm, and the mill is mated to a Xtronic CVT gearbox.

In the kitbag are automatic rear door slides, a separate dual-zone automatic climate control for front and rear cabin, a private theatre entertainment system and an advance Around View Monitor parking camera.

Also, as previously mentioned, the Elgrand features three ottoman seats, for the front passenger and the two second row captain seats, offering seating in business-class fashion.

Elsewhere, the Elgrand features an interior dressed in dark espresso leather, with gradation wood-tone on panels to offer contrast, as well as chrome-coated, polished 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

Four exterior colours are available, these being White Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Dark Purple and Black. Pricing for the Elgrand is RM384,863, though this is exclusive of road tax and insurance – the RM398,342 pricing seen at the roadshow is on-the-road, with insurance.

Seen it s few times on the road.Must’ve been from parallel importers.Glad to see something else in the large MPV segment other than Vellfire and the Alphard. And this one looks really nice too.The previous gen is too boxy to my liking.

UMW Toyota has been letting the grey importers taking away all their of share of sales for the Alphard/Vellfire range. Wonder what’s going on in their head?

as always, UMW is thinking of how to cheat its customer on money…because they know the Alphard and Vellfire would be expensive to bring in, with surely less sales, hence less cheating…not the right business model they are looking after.

I have a feeling that it’ll be too expensive if they brought them in officially. Might be too hard to compete with grey importers.

Which is bigger? Alphard or Elgrand?
Why is Mazda 8 so small huh?

Bcoz it’s supposed to compete with the Estima/Sharan. Not Alphard segment.

Then you can also say the E-Class or S-Class is just a glorified car or even a glorified taxi.

E-class, S-class etc are cars that may be used as taxis. Elgrand, Alphard etc are just vans that try to be cars you can stuff more people in.

  • Not bad. Thumbs up to ETCM for bringing in more JDM cars. Now I wonder whether Honda will bring in the Elysion to here… As for the Alphard and Vellfire, it will be tough for UMW if they decided to bring it here because Alphard and Vellfire sales has been dominated by grey importers already.

One of this day if you want a car that cost like a house in KL. Just get this one and start building your family inside. Shouldn’t we realize that automobiles now a day is making the RM looks like Yen! I am pretty sure that those who controls the sales of these items is capitalizing and soon all will be billionaire. That adds another figure to the % of inflation and soon if the oils runs out, we will all suffers!

  • Definitely nicer than the precious model.. though it’s official import, they only bring in 3.5 V6 (I wonder if this is the only engine option) and not 2.4
Not many ppl like 3.5 engine due to the road tax and also high fuel consumption. Price ard 400k making it rather expensive. Alphard or vellfire 2.4 is selling at 210-240k (it’s 2008 though) so many would still opt for Toyota.

I’m glad that Tan Chong has decided to expand its range with new CBU models. This is a bold move which some other brand owners don’t dare to risk. Tan Chong clearly sending a signal to the market that they want to be ready by 2015 when Govt will stop issuing APs for reconditioned cars. And Malaysia market is evolving and customers are diversified. Many can afford high-priced, full-specs models. But moving forward, greater demand will surely be for fuel efficient cars that does not sideline engine performance. Fuel sipping cars will become collectors items for those who can afford the bigger engine and ever rising fuel price.

Get a Mitsubishi grandis for rm 150k year 2012 than an Alphard for rm 210k 2008. With 3 years of warranty. Elgrand … Maybe for an auntie driving their kids to Chinese primary school Peter and Jane

    • or a VW Touran wt its powerful 1.4TSI, compared to the grandis…the touran max torque of 220nm is available from low 1,300rpm all the way to 4,5000rpm while the grandix peak torque is at above 4,000rpm …resulting in better drive and no need to rev the engine hard for quick progress = low FC for the touran….the small 1.4 turbo engined offer cheaper roadtax than the Grandis’s 2.4 liter and bttr FC (anyway, the grandis is obsolete, mitsui hv discontinue the model for the rest of the world)

Fuel consumption according to Standard 10.15 here in Japan:
        Elgrand 3.5 9.8 km/l
        Elgrand 2.5 11.6km/l
        Touran 1.4 14.6km/l
        Sharan 1.4 14.0 km/l
        Grandis 2.4 11.4 km/l

Equipped with old 4AT gear (both VWs are on 6AT and both Elgrands are on CVT) and ancient engine, the Japanese ditched the Grandis long time ago and forcing Mitsu to stop it sales in 2009. It is now only sold to third world countries like Malaysia whose fc awareness is low. Mitsu Japan now offers Delica as their MPV.

However, I have reservations on those VW for not having rear air-con vent (same goes to Wish and Stream). Ok for those countries having only 3 months of summer like Japan or Europe, but not ok for tropical climates having ’12 months of summer’ like us. No matter how good the climate control being installed, rear vents are stilled needed. Pity the passengers, especially the 3rd row.
