A 2008 Tesla ‘Signature 100’ Roadster owned by actor and philanthropist George Clooney is set to go under the hammer at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach auction next month. The proceeds will go to his Sudanese charity, the Satellite Sentinel Project.
Clooney was invited to purchase car number 0008, with only 2,720 km on the clock from new. It is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic over a premium two-tone leather interior and is expected to fetch US$100-125k.
Widely touted as ‘the world’s first all-electric-powered sports car,’ the Tesla Roadster‘s electric motor has a peak output of 248 hp and a 13,500 rpm redline. The car can do the century sprint in 4 seconds and max out at over 200 km/h, while a peak torque of 244 Nm is available from zero revs.
As of March this year, Tesla was still selling Roadsters but plans were already afoot some time earlier to end production. The Californian firm launched its Model S sedan in 2009, its latest car to date.
