Man United players given keys to new Chevys – Rooney Camaro, Hernandez Corvette, RVP Captiva?

Footie fans who follow the English Premier League would have already noticed that Chevrolet is a sponsor of Manchester United from prominent seat branding in the Old Trafford dugout. The GM brand became the “Official Automotive Partner” of Man United in a sponsorship deal signed last year, and will have its bowtie logo on team jerseys from the 2014/5 season.

As part of the sponsorship deal, United players and staff recently received the keys to their new Chevys, and their choices were rather interesting, and for some, unexpected. Like who would have guessed that the Chevrolet Captiva SUV would be popular with United’s big money stars?

The Chevrolet Camaro and C6 Corvette were the preferred choice for Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez. “It’s great, it obviously looks great and I’m excited to drive it. I think when I saw them all together this was the one that suited me best, it looks nice and will drive well too. I chose a manual as I think it’s great to get full use from a sports car,” Rooney said of his rag-top Camaro.

Full back Evra picked a coupe. “I like the shape of the car, it’s fantastic. I just had my first drive and I was really surprised, it drives well and you can feel it’s really powerful, I’m very happy,” the French full back said.

Chicharito’s choice was down to size: “I looked at the Camaro and the Corvette, but this is not too big, like me, we are quite similar!” the Mexican said. “I used to have a Dodge Viper but haven’t had a sports car for a while so this is a great opportunity for me. When I got the chance to have this Corvette I snapped their hand off!” midfield man Carrick chipped in.

Some went green, like back-up keeper Sam Johnstone and Nick Powell who went electric with the Chevy Volt, but one would never have bet on Old Trafford’s latest sensation Robin Van Persie choosing a Captiva! “I have two children, so this car is really good for me – it’s a family car. It looks very nice, it’s a good car,” the EPL top scorer said.

In addition to taking delivery of their cars, some players also received special driving and safety tips from Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin. Lucky devils!

Chevvy got bad resale Value (RV). Better they give Man United the keys to Toyota Vios. It has good RV.

Chevrolet make low quality cars. US forte in cars died a long time ago. Anyway when all over the world everybody is reducing cc, in the US, cc is increasing. Having a 5000cc car is normal in the US and yet the US blame Asia for causing the ozone decline!

totally agree gully, it’s ridiculous that these pampered millionaire ball chasers get more money (it can’t be described as ‘earned’!) in a year than most of us make in a whole lifetime and get given a free car on top… i mean whats the point of earning all that cash if nobody will let you spend it!

  • I guess some of them already had their precious “limited edition” and “custom made” in their garage so a normal sports car is probably not exciting enough. However, another disposable mule for the school run is always handy.

High end Chevys is understood, but left-hand-drive Captiva?.. Not so convenient to be driven in the UK.

Paul Scholes also got a Captiva and if you read UK news last week his Captiva was stolen from his front yard having left the car engine on to defrost.
Actually Sir Alex ban his young players to get top of the line models such as Corvette or Camaro. So thats explain why Nick Powell and Sam Johnstone get a Volt instead.

  • corvettes & camaros are only produced in LHD. btw i wonder if the car each player can choose depends on his place in the team. for first eleven can choose more expensive models, if regular bench warmer then cheaper models for him
