Honda’s luxury brand unveiled the 2014 Acura MDX luxury SUV at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Looking identical to the MDX Concept from Detroit 2013, the all-new third gen MDX is built on a new platform, and will also be offered for the first time in a more affordable and fuel efficient 2WD form.
The 2014 Acura MDX is powered by an all-new 3.5 litre i-VTEC V6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), producing 290 hp and 362 Nm of torque. The direct-injected 24-valve Earth Drems Technology engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. As mentioned, the new MDX will be available in both 2WD and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) variants.
Acura bills the new MDX as a “true driver’s SUV” that was tuned and tested on the Nürburgring – the lighter new 2014 MDX with SH-AWD bests the previous model’s lap time on the famed circuit by eight seconds. The 2014 MDX features Integrated Dynamic System with three modes: Sport, Normal and Comfort. IDS adjusts steering effort, throttle response, SH-AWD and active sound to suit the driver.
Acura is very proud of its Jewel Eye LED headlights, present here along with Acura/ELS Studio premium audio system and the next-gen AcuraLink connectivity system with AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic. In addition to traffic services, the AcuraLink cloud-based connected car system offers an assortment of features via an embedded cellular system and compatible smartphones.
The above systems take advantage of a seven-inch colour On Demand Multi-Use Display (ODMD) touchscreen with haptic feedback and an eight-inch Colour Information Display. The addition of ODMD allowed engineers to reduce the number of hard buttons in the centre stack from 41 to just nine.
The optional entertainment package adds a DVD rear entertainment system with a nine-inch VGA screen for the rear seats, while the Advance package brings a huge 16.2-inch screen with HDMI compatibility for devices such as a game console.
Other notable features include Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow, Blind Spot Information (BSI), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
The 2014 Acura MDX was designed and developed in the US, and will be built at the Lincoln, Alabama plant.
Wow so many LCD screens. 2 at center, 1 at speedo, 1 at roof. This is a Weather Monitoring Team vehicle!

Acura’s design has always been the least favorite of the three luxury brands from Japan (Lexus, Acura and Infiniti), it’s too generic and predictable for me.
