Jaguar C-X17 concept teased, to debut in Frankfurt

Jaguar C-X17 concept

Jaguar’s first crossover could finally be happening – the Coventry-based carmaker has released a solitary teaser photo of the C-X17 concept it’s bringing to the Frankfurt show next week. We can see a crossover-like silhouette (then again, it could also be an estate of sorts), a roof spoiler and tail lamps not unlike those found on the F-Type, but little else.

Jaguar says the concept introduces a new modular aluminium architecture that will underpin future products. The C-X17 shows the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture. Reports say it’ll be called the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA), and it’ll also be the base for the upcoming Jaguar XS, a compact exec that’ll pick up where the “a-Ford-able” X-Type left off to have a second go at the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Go to Jaguar’s Facebook page on September 9 at 17.10 CET (September 10 at 11.10 am, Malaysian time) to watch the wraps come off live.

Jonathan James Tan

While most dream of the future, Jonathan Tan dreams of the past, although he's never been there. Fantasises much too often about cruising down Treacher Road (Jalan Sultan Ismail) in a Triumph Stag that actually works, and hopes this stint here will snap him back to present reality.

this will be a mid size SUV. something like Kuga, or CX-5.

jaguar can do this as they have access to 4WD platforms used by sister company Land Rover.

  • Both CX-5 and Kuga are not mid size suv. They are compact crossover.

This Jaguar crossover is aim to rival the X3 and the GLK. It’s a compact crossover.

This will be interesting from Jaguar. I think they won’t give it a Terrain Response, instead, an automatic AWD system, like quattro or xDrive, since the new Terrain Response in the Range Rover and RR Sport have an auto mode too, so I think the people who built Terrain Response have mastered the auto mode. It will be more interesting, if it also competes with the sister’s runaway success story of the Evoque.
