A Subaru Outback engineered specifically for the Chinese market is set to make its debut at the upcoming 2014 Guangzhou motor show later this month. From a stylistic point of view, not much change in store with the jacked-up Legacy, with the automaker stating that most of the work has been focused on drivetrain updates.
The Chinese-market Outback will be equipped with a 2.0 litre horizontally-opposed direct injection turbo engine developed exclusively for China as well as a 2.5 litre horizontally-opposed mill boasting at least “80% newly designed components.” The transmission of choice will likely be Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT, coupled to the trademark Symmetrical AWD.
In other markets, the Outback is available with a 175 hp and 235 Nm 2.5 litre flat-four and a 256 hp and 334 Nm 3.6 litre flat-six engine. The Chinese Outback is due to make its market debut before the year is out.
