We’re here live at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Tint-Off Championship, held at the Sunway Convention Center and hosted by Eastman Chemical Company and Tint Auto, the sole distributor of LLumar automotive window films in Malaysia. After a region-wide contest, winners from 14 nations will now vie for the top prize of US$3,000.

Participants from as close a nation as Singapore to countries as distant as Kuwait and Oman – with China sending three teams – will pit their skills against one another as they attempt to fully tint a Volkswagen Passat using a supply of LLumar’s AIR series of films under an allocated time slot of only two hours.

The winning team will be judged based on a number of factors which include tidiness of installation, cleanliness of the vehicle and of course the quality of the application itself with any gaps, uneven edge cuts and visible damages being counted against their final tally of points.

“Installing car window films may look easy, but it isn’t. A flawless installation will ensure that no dirt or other contaminants are left behind, which could destroy the chance of winning the competition,” said CEO of Tint Auto, Michael Tan.

LLumar first began sponsoring tint-offs in North America 14 years ago and has since led to a spin-off of the tournament in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2011, the tournament was held in China with Indonesia playing the host in 2012. The 2014 round marks the first time that Malaysia has hosted the tournament.

Points will be deducted if the lamination VLT is not conforming to JPJ guidelines. so..it’s not only on how skillfull the participants are on applying the lamination within the 2 hours time frame with good quality and meeting specifications, but also on his/her general knowledge on latest govt. ruling.

ya, agree. it’s too little for the magnitude of task at hand for the participants. and it’s team challenge some more.

Why don’t they told about it earlier. I’m willing to give my ride for this competition instead of those VW.
