SPYSHOTS: Next-gen Audi Q7 with minimal disguise

audi-q7-next-gen-spyshots-minimal-disguise-4

Our spy photographers have been closely following the next-gen Audi Q7 for some time, having yielded spyshots as early as mid-2013, when a test mule was spotted hiding under the guise of the current model. No surprise then, that sightings have increased in frequency this year.

As the all-new Audi Q7 is getting nearer to its debut, likely to take place during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, we have the clearest photos yet of the SUV, showing it virtually undisguised. The only parts camouflaged are the upper section of the grille plus the head- and tail lamps.

All in all, we get a clear glimpse of this SUV’s design language. It’s evident that some of the current Q7‘s bulkiness has been mixed in with the next version of Audi’s design language – the highlight being a new grille design, easily recognized as a hexagon and connected to the headlights to create a strong front end look. The bodyside also gains haunches above the wheel arches, presumably to provide a visual connection to the original Quattro, no matter how tenuous the link may be.

The Q7 continues to be a massive vehicle, imposing both on the road and off it. However, a new platform will help it reduce its weight significantly. The engines available should be carried over from the A7 and A8, including three 3.0 TDI diesels with outputs varying from 218 to 320 PS.

A sport model is also planned, powered by either a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 or the “tri-turbo” TDI system from the RS5 Concept, which would make this a match for the BMW X5 M50d. However, this won’t be available at launch and neither will the Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid that the company wants to make.

    • I rather have an Audi without the 4 rings, that rings look like a condom.

Is it me or the next gen Q7 has not changed much apart from new front and rear lights?

I guess I can’t expect a stunning all new generation like the awesome Volvo XC90 transformation.

The old xc90 was fugly to begin with. Thats why the new one is sexy as fuck.

With no radical changes on the exterior, this is to be expected of all current Audi lineup. Just glad the old cockpit will finally change.

Not sure why I am very excited to finally see the new Q7 coming in, the current one is too old already, and somehow, the Q7 is sensible, for a large German SUV, plus it is the only mid-luxury German large SUV (the other being the BMW X5) made in Germany. The VW Toureg is more of an entry-luxury, and the Cayenne is more of a full luxury SUV.

Q7 3L diesel engine is so weak and lame, X5 3L diesel in 50d will kick your ass everytime.
