Koenigsegg, the maker of mad machines, is considering making a four-door car. Company founder and boss Christian Von Koenigsegg revealed that in a chat with Top Gear at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, where he unveiled the over-1,500 hp Regera.
“Yes, I can imagine a car like that. Maybe within the next five years, possibly earlier than that,” he told TG. So yes, the experience of getting pinned back in your seat by over 1,000 Koenigsegg horses can be shared with three other brave souls, in the near future.
Another thing to expect from the Swedish brand is an engine without camshafts. “The way I see it, if you view the engine as a piano, and the valves as keys, with a camshaft, you’re playing the piano with a broomstick,” Von Koenigsegg said.
The Regera combines a twin-turbo 5.0 litre V8 with three electric motors
“The reason you have a four-valve cylinder head instead of a two-valve is so it can breathe freely on high rpm for more power, but that’s counteracting your efforts at low rpm, because you get less speed through bigger ports and less turbulence and poorer distribution.
“The first thing is to shut off two valves. Then if you get rid of the throttle body – because you can throttle with the valves – you can open them a little or a lot, you get better response than butterflies on an intake tract, because you’re in the combustion engine.
“Thirdly you can shut off cylinders completely like Audi is doing, but you don’t have to choose just two to do it. And fourth, you can have any valve timing you want – a diesel-like character, or an F1-type character because you have no restriction whatsoever in cam profile,” he explained.
The Koenigsegg One:1 has 1,360 PS and a 0-400 km/h time of around 20 seconds
Koenigsegg has been developing the cam-less engine for almost 14 years now, with a team of eight staff who have been working on the tech full time over the last few years. “It’s getting ready for fruition, but not only in Koenigsegg. We’re working with a couple of large OEMs and looking to implement it,” says the boss.
What one shouldn’t expect from Koenigsegg is an “entry-level” model to go against Porsche’s 911, McLaren’s 650S and Ferrari’s fresh 488 GTB. “To me, in the last few years, that sector – the 911, the McLaren, the Ferrari 458 etc – is a hornet’s nest which I want to stay well away from. Everyone is trying to kill each other. I’m happy way out here, away from that in my little blue ocean. I’m not interested in getting into that fight,” an uninterested Von Koenigsegg declared.
So, even the rich boys will have to save up for a Koenigsegg, which is available officially in Malaysia via Naza Swedish Motors. An Agera S goes for just under RM5 million, before duties and taxes, just so you know.

Wowee! Dont u just love Von Koenigsegg’s way to engine design!
Respect… Thy are pushing technology like very few hv done… Even more impressive wen it comes frm a smaller brand compare to the big three..
