Nearly half a million vehicle registration transactions have been done online to date, transport minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has said, according to a Bernama report.
The Road Transport Department‘s (JPJ) online vehicle registration system negates the need for the public to submit documents at JPJ counters, thereby easing congestion and crowds.
“After the process of registering online is complete, the seller, distributor or owner can go to a JPJ counter to get a print-out of the grant and road tax,” Liow said, adding that JPJ has also introduced borderless vehicle registration – you can now register your vehicle at any JPJ branch nationwide save for Labuan and Langkawi.
“For example, one can register at the Cameron Highlands office, if one wants to use a Johor registration number. Prior to this, we had to go to Johor to use a Johor registration,” he said.
Meanwhile, the transport ministry has allowed the use of rear drawers not exceeding two metres in length on small lorries in Cameron Highlands. Rear drawers extend the vehicle’s length for extra loads. Also approved are additional side and rear metal fences for vegetable transporters at the hill station.
“The construction and usage of a rear drawer are subject to the guidelines fixed by JPJ. The guidelines will be implemented on July 1,” Liow said, adding that the 90% Motor Vehicle Licence rate reduction for Cameron Highlands vegetable transporters has been approved up to October 27, 2017.
