Hyundai Creta too conservative, US will get a new SUV

The new Hyundai Creta – badged as the ix25 in China – has been dismissed as too “conservative” to be sold in the USA by Hyundai Motor America’s chief executive, Dave Zuchowski. The US will, however, be getting a different compact SUV aimed squarely at the North American market, according to the CEO.

Speaking to Edmunds, Zuchowski said that the plan was to go up against current rivals like the Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Juke and the Honda HR-V. The new compact crossover is expected to have aggressive styling to grab the attention of the Gen X and Gen Y crowds, and also to separate it from the design of Hyundai’s current range of models.

Zuchowski said, “in our opinion, as we go into this segment, it is a great segment for Millennials, for Gen Y. It is a good youth vehicle and we think in order to tap that market, the thing should be styled less conservatively and more aggressively.”

As to what we might expect to find in this new compact SUV, Zuchowski suggested that the vehicle might be sitting on the same platform as the Hyundai Veloster, making it a front-wheel drive SUV – no different from its intended competitors. The chief executive however indicated that this new compact SUV might not be out any time soon. ”We have decided to wait a little bit longer to get the right vehicle,” he said.

In other parts of the world, Volkswagen had also acknowledged that there is an overwhelmingly fast-growing demand for such a segment in China, and that its own HR-V rival is already in the works.

For those car lack of reliability, fuel economy, comfort and RV, the look is the selling point.
