BMW Malaysia has announced that it will be working together with GreenTech Malaysia to offer its BMW i8 customers access to public charging services and facilities over the coming year. The announcement of the strategic partnership was made at the launch of GreenTech’s ChargEV public electric vehicle charging station network.
The company’s head of corporate communications, Sashi Ambi, said that technology in the automotive industry was at the tipping point of change, especially with regards to mobility of the future. “The key strategy for the nation to move towards sustainable mobility within the urban environment is through industry-wide cooperation.”
“This includes ensuring the necessary infrastructure to support the new technology to increase consumer confidence in the viability of electric vehicles and plug-in-hybrid vehicles,” he said.
Ambi added that the success of electric vehicles and plug-in-hybrid vehicles also lies in the easy availability of mobility services, from simple home charging facilities to the ease of using a continually-expanding network of charging stations in the public space.
With ChargEV playing a pivotal role in encouraging the adoption of EVs, BMW Malaysia says it believes that consumer awareness and education is the subsequent part of the equation for electro-mobility initiatives in the country, adding that technological knowledge for after-sales support and the involvement of original equipment manufacturers will also play a vital role in the development.

customer or customerS?…i want to see more than 2 cars on the road….:)
Don’t be surprised if you see this more than Proton
This EV cars are just marketing gimmick. Clean Energy? Coal power station? Hydrodams? No free lunch OK.
You dont see potential? People didnt see the future of motorised vehicles too, saying horse carriages were here to stay. Its beyond clean energy, think of the evolution of vehicles and the dependence on conventional fueling methods and how we interact with cars.
This is not some revolutionary shift like a ‘Horse-Carriage’ to ‘Mobilized Vehicle’. The Combustion Engine and EV vehicles are both the same mechanically minus the engine and drivetrain. What potential are you talking about? You don’t care because the coal to generate electricity is not mined at the back of your house. You don’t care because you are not the one who will get kicked from your house so that more Hydrodams could be built. Solar Energy? Can we build a Rare Earth Plant behind your house so that more batteries to store Solar Energy can be produced?
So … how many times did you charge your phone today? How many hours of air conditioning? How much computer time? How long under indoor lighting? Did you care about how much demand you put on those sources you mentioned when you listed them? Oh i forgot, theyre generated far from your house and EVs are totally a different matter right?
That’s why I mentioned EV is no different from other type of conventional energy. They will pollute. Hence, the promotion of EV vehicles as clean is just gimmick. Peace…
