The Rapid KL double-decker bus, which can transport a total of 108 passengers at a time, will start operating today. Rapid KL CEO, Mohd Azam Omar, said initially only five buses will ply the U80 route from Shah Alam to the Central Market hub.
Speaking to Bernama, he said the route was chosen due its high demand and capacity during peak hours, and that the service would be expanded to other areas in stages by the end of the month.
“With these buses, more seats would be available for each trip compared with a regular bus, and we hope passengers can enjoy a more comfortable and safe ride,” he added.
The double-decker buses are equipped with priority seats and support the universal access concept for ease of use. CCTV cameras and information display screens are also fitted on both decks.
The UK-made 4.2 metre tall Alexander Dennis Enviro500 diesel double-decker bus has 83 seats and standing room for 25 people. Costing RM1.4 million each, it is capable of carrying 50 more people than RapidKL’s current single-deck bus.
The introduction of double-decker buses is part of Rapid KL’s efforts in achieving public transport usage by 40% of the population by 2030.

Hello Rapid. Please put camera on the upper deck like the UK double decker busses. This is because your people, especially the Mat Rempits, will use the upper deck to kongkek and other dirty things. They cannot wait for Malam Jumaat and will be up to nonsense upstairs.
where got bus cost RM1.4 million lah? Berapa masuk pocket Azam Omar?
RM1.4 million yu can build a 3 storey mansion built up about 10,000sq feet.
If you dunno about bus industry, I suggest you to learn more before commenting here. Otherwise, please shoot your mouth in fmt, mkini, rocket.
You got thumbs down by ignorant people who only know how to criticised without even googling for facts, just because Prasana/Rapid is GLC. So people assumed they will always makan duit.

It is NOT cheap.
Thanks for the support! Its too bad these people have been brainwashed to see everything with political glasses. Before they even do some fact finding, they just assume that any spending above RM10 is considered corruption. Haiz…
New bus for London costs £355k (even at RM5/GBP, that’s still RM1.78m). It’s even built in UK, so that’s a lot of transportation saving, yet still costs that much. It’s a hybrid though, so that’s why it’s costlier.
So RM1.4m, all things considered, seems… reasonable. Alexander Dennis makes good bus.
By 2030, Malaysia population will be 100 million with the way each family is having 5 to 6 kids. Government told these families to have at least 5 to 6 kids.
So, how the busses can cope?
RM 1.4 million each? Quite expensive for a bus.
Here is hint, a locally made DD bus w/o fittings cost upwards RM800k. With the kitchen sink, RM900k~1.1mil.
Somemore, these Alex-Dennis comes from England (either CBU or SKD), so you can roughly gauge how expensive these bus are.
OTOH a China made BYD electric bus cost Rm1 mil and carries half the passengers.
greeting from sing! now already 2015, only 5 double-decker buses ? oh wow.. good job rapidKL, indeed rapid.
Just wanna ask, if you really are from SG, do PAP implement all 4 SMRT lines at once? If not, shuddup and balik SG.
Welcome double decker bus to Malaysia
Bravo, good job!
Not some stupid promotion discount RM8888 to lure ppl buy unreliable car and cause more congestion.
Nice bus!
RM 1.4M????
M’sia Boleh!!!
Singapore already have 100 in operating with less cost!
SG have 100 double deckers? LOL! SBS Transit alone has about 1400+ of them. SMRT Buses will have 201.
SG have 100 double deckers? LOL. SBS Transit alone has 1400+ double deckers.
what’s the hp for this bus? 0-100km/h sprint how fast? top speed?
For diesel engines, its not the HP that matters. Its the torque.
Prasarana, maybe you should consider double decker train also.
Never saw double decker metro.
Though, KL-SG HSR should consider it, I know TGV and Shinkansen has some double decker HSR.
Nowadays the Rapid KL buses got very few seats becos they want the people to stand up (can carry more passengers). I hope the double-decker (DD) buses got more seats upstairs for passengers. Also hope that the DD don’t hit any low tree branches or underspec bridges, otherwise will be passengers getting hurt.
I’m sure the upper deck is filled with seats. Here in Sg, standing is not allowed on the upper deck.
