Following the announcement that up to 34 roads will be closed in stages to accommodate this weekend’s Standard Chartered KL Marathon, Rapid KL has announced that it will be offering free LRT rides to those travelling to the race between 2:30am and 6am this Sunday.

Applicable to the Kelana Jaya and the Ampang LRT lines, the free rides have been arranged to accommodate participants of the marathon, which itself is set to begin at 4:30am Sunday morning. Rapid KL spokesperson, Lim Jin Aun recommended the Masjid Jamek LRT station as the best place to stop, before heading towards either starting points of the race by foot.

“For a hassle-free journey to Dataran Merdeka, we strongly encourage everyone to use the Rapid KL LRT services. Those who need to drive can easily park their vehicles at our multi-storey parking complexes at Gombak and Ampang and continue their journey by train.

“On their way back, commuters can purchase tokens or MyRapid cards for faster and convenient access to Rapid KL trains and bus networks,” said Lim.

Conveniently, special booths will be set up at the KL Sentral LRT station and Dataran Underground from October 1 to 3 between 10am and 5pm for travellers to purchase MyRapid cards, presumably for their journeys back home after the race. Remember, while the journey towards the KL Marathon may be free between 2:30am to 6am, the journey back isn’t.
